Why? when I took my Ferrari to a Porsce dealership EVERYBODY in the dealership came out to look at the car. when I took my Porsche to the Ferrari dealership NOBODY comes out to look at it? Huh?
Because all of the Ferrari guys are too busy flipping their F430's so they can buy a Porsche. Their jealous you already have one. Peter Hatch
HERE IS THE ANSWER YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.......!!!!!!! When you took your Ferrari to a Porsche dealership, they came out and talk to you and be nice because they saw an opportunity of sale from you. Because Ferrari cost more than Porsche, this means any guy who can afford a Ferrari can afford a Porsche. On the other hand, at the Ferrari dealership, they thought a guy with a Porsche might not be able to afford a Ferrari.... so they mind their own business...... I don't think the reason they came out to see your Ferrari, not that because they are car enthus. at all... it's all about money....
You do realise this is just a parody to the other thread similar to this right? Anyway, if you parked your bright shiny new Carrera GT in front of a Ferrari dealership you would get plenty of attention. Just as such, I'm sure there are a few Ferrari's that if you parked in front of a Porsche dealership would get no attention other than that of true Ferrari enthusiasts. ie 400i, Mondial etc (not bashing, just hard to distinguish as a Ferrari to the average passerby) Peter Hatch
Heh. Hard to say for sure, but I'd venture it has more to do with rarity and character. Most 986's, 996's, 987's and 997's are really too numerous to warrant special attention. In comparison, Ferrari's aren't quite as rare in numbers as people think, but they are in sightings. I went to a Porsche dealer in a CS and the sales people did dribble out. But I know of a Ferrari dealer where the sales manager might come out if a 997GT3RS showed up, probably for a Carrera GT or 959 too.
The honest Porsche (aircooled) drivers are - driving their cars... Not showing them off. Direct quote from the doctor Ferdinand himself.
Peter: This is a very good point. I think you are on to something here. Thanks for your thoughtful post.
I also notice that there are always a few Porsches in the used car lot at the Ferrari dealer, but I have never seen a Ferrari sitting in the used car lot at the Porsche dealer. I will admit, I'm only in each dealership a few times each year, but this has been the pattern for several years running. Discuss.
It's a real good theory. In fact, I had a brand new Porsche already on order and I had to come into the dealership to give them some paperwork on the M3 I was trading in. Ergo, they were not trying to impress me.
Porsches are great tools... very precise, very good at what they do. Thats why there are so many on the road. OR Porsches are like your pretty fun, pretty good looking girlfriend / wife. Ferrari's are like that smokin' hot chick on the side!
What I thought was amazing the other day is that I was driving by one of those dingy/dirty used car lots the other day where there were quite a few people in looking at the cars there, and there was a Mondial that no one was looking at. (Rad Imports down the street from SR for those in the area.) I thought it was kinda funny that for once the Ferrari wasn't getting all the attention. Peter Hatch
Guess my plans to come over and take you for a spin in the 360 F1 Spider are totally out of the question then?
OR..... Maybe the Ferrari salesmen know that a Porsche guy is happy with his car and can't convince him to switch; while the Porsche salesman knows that this Ferrari guy may be looking for the newest model and can't get it at the Ferrari dealership. Just a thought.
how do you show off a porche? hey, look at my porsche. i know you have already seen ten today. But mine is special!
The story was that Ferdinand Porsche was given a special tour of the Bill Harrah collection, and their curator was a little embarrased to tell him that they did not have a Porsche in the collection. Ferdinand is supposed to have replied - that is OK, because my customers are still driving all of our cars.
Porsches are hand made, very high quality, we knoooooooow. Its a very curious thing, though......it's like the Germans do NOT want to make their Porsches look good, with the curves /lines of the Famed Italian coach designers, notably, Pinin and Scaglietti. Its like they would be conceding to the Nation which is the world reknowned AND the UNDISPUTED leader in designing beauty, ITALY. Again, ITALY. If you *really* know any "real" Italians, you will understand that to them, beauty is of utmost importance. This, Ferdinand, as you call him, made his deserved fame during the NAZI rule, with the development of the ugliest, yet, well made economy car, the "bug". In itself, ingeniously engineered. Maybe that same mindset has held on for 70 yrs, I dont know, but porsches all look like, well........a baseball cap. They are still, now, producing the new ones that look like, well.........new baseball caps. Enough said. Porsches have succeeded in developing a clientelle that has been groomed to be attracted to their bland, perhaps ugly, baseball cap form because .....its a porsche, of course!!
Well, you can find a Porsche for sale in the classified adds in just about any newspaper. I've NEVER seen a Ferrari in one.
