Burried Dino 246

Last night I was flipping through some of my friends old news papaer clippings of car stuff and found this the attached images. Anyone know what ever happened to this car? The newspaper is a Los Angeles Times from 1978. Based on the obituary's on the back, I'd say its from either late Janurary or early February of that year.

I would have to agree. That is a story that stays with the car!

 

I have always heard the car was resurrected and made road worthy again, although I hve no evidence to verify this. needless to say, the autoweek article brought the car back to attention just as prices were starting to heat up.

 

Wonderful story - makes ya wonder how many other Ferraris are out there hiding in a barn, under a tarp, etc!!

 

according to the dino register, the car has been owned from 82-94 by a person in burbank , ca with the plate "dug up".

pretty clever, given the circumstances.

I recall this Dino was sold at public auction, having only 700 miles from new on it. The mechanic who bought it reported it actually ran briefly before quitting for some reason. Stolen from a valet parking lot, it was buried by the thieves behind their rental house, and they made a sandbox on top of it as the hole wasn't quite deep enough. Years later, a child found something shiny and set about uncovering it only to discover a Dino!
I also recall from the pictures that the backhoe wasn't kind to the bodywork during the excavation process.

i don't have access to the ca. dmv. is "dug up" still being used?

 

I just filled out the on-line template to attempt to 'order' the plates; response was :
"Error: Sorry. The plate you have chosen is not available."
