Chequered Flag is showing one, not original paint (not suprising), not vouching for, but maybe worth a look. They are cool cars....

I believe the Chequered flag one is a 2.0 and not 2.4. At least the Blue one there is a 2.0, badged as a Ferrari and yes it has 2.4 front grill and 2.4 bumpers so it could be mistaken as a 2.4 but it is a 2.0 as stated on the website and is clearly visible on the motor shots.

Michael, the 2.4 is a very rare toy, not many around. I have not seen a 2.4 for sale in over a year now.

The Chequered Flag car is most certainly a 2.0 based upon its VIN, I am holding out for a 2.4 though I realize they are very scarce. Should I find one I will post here until then would appreciate any and all leads! Michael Bayer 330GT and 365GTC/4.

I have been looking to and mike is right the 2.4 is rare and they Fiat dinos have recently had a price jump and I am totally smitten by the spyder but at the prices they are now there is so much more interesting and exotic that I am rethinking it all.

Noooo, stop thinking and get one... There is nothing more exotic and interesting than a Dino (I might be biased)

There is a Fiat Dino coupe 2.4 that lives in my condos and parks next to me. Only met the guy once since moving here 4 months ago.

Here is a friend of mines Dino. He won best of show at a large Fiat event this year... He drives it all of the time too. These really are great cars, and exciting to drive.

Chequered Flag International of Marina Del Ray has its blue 1967 Fiat Dino Spider slashed to just above $32,000. Funny thing is that one went on the block at Barrett-Jackson and sold for the mid-twenties.

The Checkered Flag car may finally be sold after well over 2 years on the market. At least I know a PPI was done on it last week but I have not heard the results.

I know nothing about the Barret-Jackson one that sold for mid-20s, it must have been trashed or someone got the deal of a lifetime.

I wouldn't call it the deal of a lifetime. It was a great deal for Barrett-Jackson standards, but I was seeing Dino Spiders in the mid-twenties in Hemmings and Collector Car Trader Online up until recently.

"recently" is the key word, they seem to have gone up just like their sister Dino's.

Ferrari Dino's have gone up much more than the FIAT Dino but the FIAT Dino has gone up also. When one goes up for sale that is.

That is the proper 2.4 grill, imported or not it was the same grill since they were never sold here to begin with.

As to the other comment about that being the motor to get...I would argue that :) but only because I am biased to the 2.0 motor. I would say the 2.4 is the one to get for its better suspension, specifically the rear. There is one advantage to the 2.4 motor in that parts are easier to get since that motor is much more common. Body/trim parts for the 2.0 are more common since there are quite a few more 2.0's, so its a toss-up which one to get. ZF is still in business so there are some 2.4 gearbox parts available new from ZF but not enough to do a full rebuild, the 2.0 gearbox is not impossible to find the major wear parts for.

All in all, if you drive it like I do (average 10,000 miles a year) I think the 2.4 might be better because of its suspension and perhaps the parts avaibility. I find in the hills above Santa Barbara that I can skip the rear end a lot on curves with potholes, that the 2.4 would handle better.

The 2.4 has more power no doubt about that but the 2.0 revs quicker if that makes any sense, it does not to me but I have driven both and the 2.0 just feels to rev freely (the 2.4 is no slouch, not knocking it), one item about the 2.4 is that the motor is heavier so steering is quite a bit heavier at low speeds.

All that to say, I don't know this car but I am also in S. Calif. if its not too far and anyone is seriously interested I can go look at it. Looking at the pictures, I think it has more rust than the description says it does and I question all the work that was done in May for 2 reasons, some of the front end parts are no longer available, there are similar items but they all require modifications to work, I would want to know who did it. Also, whoever did this work he never asked anyone on the Dino mailing list which makes me wonder the quality because not many people know this car. The motor of course is standard 2.4 and we all know what it costs to rebuild one of those :)

Guys I am happy to report we are the proud owner of 2400 Dino Spider #1197. I am in the midst of sorting out some ignition issues and fabricating the missing top boot (and getting a price from the upholstery shop should others need one). Once its a wrap, I will post pics. As you know I was fixed on a 2400 Spider and can report they are very hard to find, perhaps their survival rate is even lower than I thought (of the 434 2400 Spiders made, at survival rates similar to vintage Ferraris there should be 300 or so left, and about 7-10 on the market each year. In my three years of looking I could not locate 10 total for sale, which makes me wonder just how many are left? As to prices, my look at past sales showed that the 2400 Spiders typically went for 1/3 more than 2000 Spiders in similar condition (supported by the price guides, though at so few sales, this is more a best guess). The recent RM Auction of the Ponder Collection 2000 Spider for $65,000 (with premium), may portend a radical reappraisal of these terrific cars. Michael Bayer

Micheal, what is going on with the boot ? I have not heard back, are you ready for me to send mine for your pattern. I was waiting until you are ready so I am not without mine too long.
