OK, seemingly a simple question that is cryptically hidden or never mentioned in the shop manual. More specifically which direction does the main pulley turn that drives the alternator and A/C. Clockwise or counterclockwise when looking at front of engine. Sorry I already have some parts taken off and can't merely start the car. Thanks.

Be clever and look @ the timing belts.
Where are the tensionners and where is the straight side?
Camshaft pulleys are always driven on the oppisite side of the tensionner.
Once you got that answer you have also the direction the engine cranks...

The crank turns clockwise from the front as do most but not all engines in cars. The cams turn the opposite way because of the gear to ger cam drive. This applies to the 308, F40, 355, etc, the 348 is different though.

Paul -- Now, I know that you know that TRs don't have the gears to drive separate cam belt sprockets ;)

Speedman stated the rule to remember: the idler pulley is on the slack side of the belt -- and then take the gears into account, if present.

TR cam drive layout confirms crankshaft rotation = clockwise viewed at front:

Huh! Cams and crank turn the same direction.

No -- Paul had it right for those other models -- they have the belts driven by separate sprockets that are driven via a gear set off of the crankshaft so the direction reverses (308-4V in the jpeg).

Side joke -- calling the 348 belt design just "different" is generous ;)

The question was about a Testarossa. No need to confuse the inquisitor.

I made a boo boo, I assumed the TR was the same as the boxer, my bad. You learn something new everyday. I guess I should have just answered the question about the crank, thanks Steve. Ill go away now and stick to things I know 100% , lol :)
