Only if its a GTC exhaust. The standard Tubi makes little difference to tone and performance. The funny thing is... though the F430 has the better engine, is nippier, more agile, and the better steering feel.... I still drive the Gallardo more then I did the F430. I am wondering if its because the Gallardo is better insulated and perhaps therefore i do not get mentally fatiqued. The car is diffinately better built. Solid and well fitted. As Jon mentioned the pedals position is abit off...but I am use to it now. The pedal feel on both cars is so different its not funny. When i started driving the Lambo, the car was jerking all over, couldnt drive it smoothly coz of the bite point of the brake and the accelarator. But like all things in life... just get use to it. I would imagine it would be the opposite for a Lambo driver converting to a Ferrari, same transition process. I would summarise that the F430 is the better performance car, but the Gallardo is the better built car. I enjoyed the 430 as much as I am enjoying the Gallardo now.
Have to be careful with the GTC exhaust though. Sometimes its up to luck which batch u get. The first one I had.. the cabin resonance was so bad that I had a headache everytime I drove it. The outside sounds is unbelieveable... its like Angels Screaming..."Hallelujah!"
thank you for your reply. It is hard to imagine what the options for the 430 are like since cars are pretty rare in sgp. And HSM doesnt have any showroom cars sitting around even. Aftermarket upgrade? Do you know if I can just change the door speakers to aftermarket ones that are better quality and drop in a 2 channel amplifier to drive them? Will regular speakers fit cos I have read that the depth is very shallow and not many aftermarket brands can fit to Ferrari specs. What other options do you think are needed? HSM has upped the price to 770k but has also package in 50k worth of options so ....sigh..no choice but to spec the car up and use up the 50k sum.
Lung, Do you take the G to play golf? If so, where do you put the bag? On the rear parcel shelf? With driver removed? And what type of bag do you have? Is it a stand bag?
No problem with new speakers and amp. The sound guy (William) which HSM uses is pretty good. He is also an IASCA judge...so he knows his job. On the option front, my recommnendation is for you to speak to one of the salesmen at HSM who can brief you on the options list. This website is also an excellent source of information.
No problem putting a stand bag or even a 9.5' bag on the rear shelf. But its rather cumbersome though. I usually just use the passenger seat which makes it very easy to unload at the bag drop off point.
You're most welcomed AVG, hope my modest report is entertaining & I'm not an experienced driver. Did you get a chance to testdrive the Other car? Lung how much are both the 430 tubis? In what way is the 430 a better engine? I'm surprised you're getting jerks on your G as well, is it not the latest? I like the fact that the hifi on the 430 can be easier for mods unlike the build-in for G, not that i'm interested in car hifi esp on such cars but the G do seem like a more well thought after package whereas Ferrari is more interested in making a driving machine. Too bad I can't afford it
Coupe1, I thought a base 430 is almost $800k now? The base G is already $795k now excluding options. They factored in the 2% increase so buyers won't compliant in July.
The key difference is also in the OMV of the two cars... the F430 is about $200k while the Gallardo is at least $250.
Though mine is an improvement over the earlier models it is still behind the Ferrari F430. Firstly, the shift speed of the F430 is alot faster, u can hardly tell that there is a shift. On paper the speed of the change on the 430 is about 150ms. I don't have the data on the Gallardo but it feels like the speed of the Maserati 4200. Somewhere around 300+ms. Secondly, the gears are alot more refined. U can imagine it like the winding of a Patek versus an ETA movement. But having said that the ETA is a very sturdy movement. E.g. when the Gallardo auto shifts down from 3rd to 2nd to 1st due to the lower revs, u can hear and feel the engine "clunck" down. The 430 auto shifts down very smoothly. I have learned to deal with this "problem"... I basically shift to neutral everytime I approach a stop or traffic light. Thirdly, the e-differential on the F430 makes the 430 a more sophisticated car. U can throw the car around and it still feels planted. It makes u feel like Michael Shumacher. Its the same system used in F1 to "ground" high torque in extreme driving conditions. It gets rid of rear end "noise" "slip" "chatter" when exiting corners. But the Gallardo's 4 wheel drive does a very good job planting the car too. Fourthly, at low speed the F430 is very poised until u hit the accelerator. The Gallardo can unexpectedly start surging when u don't want it to. Likewise in 2nd gear the Gallardo feels clumsy and jerks when it does not have enough revs. I now drive alot in 1st gear in low rev situations. I have been telling alot of people lately that despite the lack of sophistication on the Gallardo engine.. I drive it more than I ever did the F430. Maybe its because the rawness and the roughness reminds me of the older Ferraris... Maybe thats what makes it more fun too.
Lung, thanks for your advice. SF, the price of a 430 is now 770k which includes 50k worth of accessories from the options list. I believe it used to be 750k but before u think the new deal is better, I noted that electric seats are now optional compared to being standard previously. And shields used to be given away free too. Now its an added option. So I really dont see the 50k free options as a real freebie. Plus its not that easy to spec up to the 50k limit unless u go for daytona seats, upgraded hi fi, leather rear bench, etc...options that are not really needed really. Cheers..
Its all about allocation. Singapore is not considered a major market in terms of luxury goods context. The market here for luxury goods is just too small. Drawing a good parallel, just look at the LV selection available locally and the one opposite Shangri La, Taiwan. The market there for example is so huge its the only country in Asia that has a Harry Winston boutique. Nuff said.
Fongster/Spaing, Just saw our album! You like MTBs too? I used to cycle alot a few years back, have lots of old parts now, that were revolutionary in the past but perhaps not so now, that was a pre- brake disc era I still have a Magic Crank and a Tioga disc drive, plus some litespeed Ti parts Love your Klien frame, you reaprayed it or is it original colour? Where do you get your parts from? Mail order or through Trek?
Original Sunrise Color for the Klein... I have alot of parts left over, I also acquire alot of NOS parts from ebay. MTBR.com has a dedicated forum that is very useful for old school stuff. Alot of diehard ritchey guys still there. I used to live new Ritchey in California. I currently have one of the last P20WCS bikes around.
I have the catalogue but didn't go throught it properly. For a start, is the Gallardo's engine a dry-sump? I've never seen any mention anywhere about shift time so far. I do have a copy of the 04 model pit against a 996Turbo when it was launched & the last issue of EVO has it against the R8 & a 997C2S. How about brakes? The G has 8pot 365mm front & 4pot 325? rear while I hear the standard 430 uses the same as a 360. I'm quite impressed with the stopping power on Pzeros on the G. Yes, I didn't like the auto downshifts & I thought a later model would "delete" that. Maybe the 07 model? That's why I always downshift manually which would be a lot smoother & no "clunk" sounds @ all. Then I'll shift to Neutral @ junctions. Do you guys shift it to Neutral & glide for a few metres before coming to a stop, does it harm anything? Anyway, it pops to Neutral within 4/5 secs @ stationary unless you step on the brake pedal hard. For rawness, I'd still prefer a manual box where you can play with the clutch & biting point. We can make it a very smooth ride with practise. My Egear is quite poor in managing low revs @ 1st gear only, 2nd onwards is fine. I find that the jerk is more pronounced when the engine is cold, it needs a few mins to warm through & let the idle settle down. Otherwise it's quite a gem. Wonder if anybody or the workshop can reprogram the ECUs? Or maybe a change in the trans oil? A lot of old cars are sensitive to oil change, not sure about present situations. Factory delivered Lambo with Agip which is not available here.
Hee! Nice bikes you have there! Whatever is left of my collection is just a rudy project rear suspension frame, some original 1st generation RockShox and Manitous. Plus lots of itzy bitsy parts, merlin frame sold to this old gentleman who collects MTBs like how some guys collect cars! Hear he has one of the Olympic Lotus bikes too Will go check out the forum
Strangely G's data on shifting speed was not released but I am quite sure the shifting time on the G is less than 200ms. I believed my ex-360 shifts at 350ms on standard and 250ms on sports and the G does feel a lot faster than the 360 in sports mode. I agree that it is not as smooth as the 430, but it sure feels smoother than the 360 and almost as quick as the 430. It is the technology that evolved, 360(1999), G(2003) and 430(2005).
Yes it is dry sump. The G brakes are 8 pot 365mm and 4 pot 335mm. The stock 430 brakes either 330mm or 340mm in 4 pot front and 2 pot rear and not even a monoblock. And they could be the same size as the 360, swimming inside the 19s rims. They needed to upgraded like Rogers in Ceramics. I have never driven my car in Auto mode before, and I do shift to neutral to cruise towards the lights. But remember to put in neutral only from 3rd gear downwards and not at high gears. I was told it is damaging to put to neutral from 4th to 6th gear. Put it to neutral at the lights to minimise clutch wear.
haha Mike, my mom passed me a copy of the wanbao this morning, taken with you beside the CS. You are right, better lie low.
Interesting... coz my Maserati was a 2003 model. So theoratically it was better than the 360...and maybe around the Gallardo speed. But it is strange isn't it that the shift spleed is not located anywhere. Ok homework to do! But again... whats on paper and what actually happens are two different things.
how come this time the dinner was writen everywhere? tot u guys have some even bigger meets like 30-40lambos..that 1 they keep quite? lol
