Burned Enzo's tail-light...

Sounds like this guy has a great collection of cars.
Have other Enzo owners experienced this?? Seems strange to me. Only 1 out of 4 like this. Looks like the plastic lense is sun-damaged/persished, but is obviously not the case here. I would put it down to a crap casting of the plastic lense mate from the factory. Not sure the exhaust heat would cause that. Maybe over many many years, yes. But not on a 3 year old car. That or a light bulb blew and caused this damage to the lense, but also unlikely IMO. Either way........its all repaired now.

 

That's weird! I drove mine in city traffic and nothing like that happend. Maybe switch to a Tubi exhaust.

 

I was behind an Enzo with acrid, brown smoke coming out of it while crawling in traffic on a hill outside of Monterey. I was told this was from the clutch.

 

This would be true.

Not the best stuff to breath BTW.

 

That would be condensation.

 

How could the exhaust burn the tail light without deteriorating the rest of the body panels above the exhaust ?

 

I don't think it did. I think the LED's flashbulbed.

 

+1. Last saturday here in Rome. Was behind an Enzo with the same smoke and a smell of burned clutch.

first time i see that with a Ferrari....and with a Enzo! wow.
i remember a Diablo it was the same problem comes from catalysator behind the car too hotest.

It definitely does look like burned acrylic - I work with tons of the stuff and we heat it up a lot and thats what happens, it bubbles just like that.

Weird thing is it takes maybe ~400 degrees of heat, maybe more to get it to do that. I would be utterly amazed if the lens got THAT hot and it didn't affect the rest of the paint. Also would be amazed at how the exhaust could reach the lens and still be that hot in such a confined area.

Maybe the car was on fire and the lens just hasnt been replaced yet?

 

I know a guy with a Murcie that melted his license plate rim while on a road trip. That's quite a bit different situation though considering the exhaust placement on the Lambo.

Granted I don't own an enzo, but I was thinking the same thing when I read the original post. I don't see how just one of the lenses could be affected from exhaust gasses, if at the very least the one next to it wasn't, and most likely the body panel would have seen some effects as well. I would guess a wiring problem inside or a faulty led/bulb.

I had a bulb replaced and it wasnt LED.

 

That's what I would have thought to see something happen to the lense like in the picture, but Jim said LED and I guess anything is possible when you're dealing with electronics so it could have caused marks like that.

 

No mine wa a regular fillament bulb, That I coud see happining, but LED is too cool of a light.

 

P 4/5 has 599 taillights which I think are a combo of both. (See photo earlier) Are Rev white lights LED in Enzo? Either way it looks like a defective tail light that shorted out and blew the bulbs to me. It also looks like the short/bulb blow started in the center white reversing assembly/bulbs. An arc/short could have done that.

 

No they are both fillimant bulbs, you can buy a LED replacemnt for them. I read somthing on a 360 owner here replacing his reverse lights with LED because of cracking. Here is the Link

Is there some requisite number of posts, views, or hours that any other Enzo thread exists here that triggers the eventual highjack to an entirely different car or is it just kneejerk reaction?

I'm fascinated.
