Had a 4-post lift installed in my garage. Neat piece of equipment. A couple of pictures. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
How much did this cost? I'm trying to get one of these, but I can't find anyone to install it. I could probably put it in myself but they say it takes a forklift to get it off the truck since they are packaged as one box.
For me the purpose is to be able to stack my Ferrari on top of my Porsche in the same garage bay. It's a better option that building more garage space.
There does not appear to be any space to stack 2 cars in those pictures. Nor is there any space on the side. So the purpose is ?????
Oh right. In my garage I have 13 foot ceilings. Two Ferraris stacked dont take up much space. I can see all kinds of reasons to have the car off the ground even if you couldn't stack cars. Changing out my cats made me really want a lift.
Maybe it's just me, but if I still have to use a creeper to crawl under the car I'd just use jacks instead of the lift. So at least I don't have the lift getting in the way of daily parking. Tarek, I don't mean to rain on your parade but with so little room wouldn't one wrong press of a button crush your car against the ceiling? I'd be paranoid about that possibility. Is there a limit switch on the lift so it will auto shut off at a height you set the switch at?
In this situation, I don't see the point of that lift. Can't raise the car too much to work on, and can't fit a car under another. Seems like it would simply complicate parking and getting out of the car.
I also just bought a lift & will eventually raise the ceiling to get the car all the way to the top. However I can vouch for the usefulness of a lift even if it only goes up halfway: a) easier to get out of low car when you're as old as dirt b) easier to vacuum car c) easier to wax lower part of car d) easier to check tire pressures e) you can work under the car on rolling stool vs creeper f) brake & suspension work at perfect height g) safer & easier to get under car, no jack stands, no kneeling, etc Bill oh yeah, I use to keep falling asleep on creeper under the car, but no more!
Terek, Anyway to install some low cost laser shut off sensors so that in the event you raise car juuuust a little too high, you won't have it hit the top to the garage ceiling?
The lift is mechanically stopped at the height you have selected and can go no further. There is also a lever that blocks and prevents the lift from inadvertently coming down ( it can only be released manually ). I have two of them, one has an opening to carry out maintenance, but you have to watch that the top car does not leak oil if you have one stacked above the other. They have been trouble free for the past 20 years.
The lift looks great, but do you have enough space for it? Please show pictures of the lift with you cars.
I installed my lift with the help of my brother in law. It took about 5 hours to install. You are right it does come in one piece on the truck so if you dont have a forklift you have to take it apart on the truck and carry it to where you want to install it. That is what i did. It cost $1895 with free shipping. Here is the link to the one i bought: http://www.asedeals.com/garage_lift_d-7.html Image Unavailable, Please Login
This has been talked about before but I put my 4 post together alone but it took some doing , much easier with help. As for delivery, talk nice to your local flat bed towing guy. Have the lift delivered to him.He can winch if onto his truck and slide it off right at your garage door. Cost me 60 bucks. Mike
When I bought my 2-post lift, a friend unloaded it from the truck with his skid-loader (forks). I used my engine hoist to erect the columns (I snapped a chalk line and layed out the placement ahead of time). I used a section of scaffold to attach the crosspiece and string the cables. It's tight, but both my cars fit. That first beam will just be about 3 inches above the hood on the top car. The windscreen of the top car just clears the beam. There is a limit switch which you can adjust to set it to your desired lifting height and I plan on adding a second limit switch for additional safety. Not that I need the 4-post lift at the moment, but there is a fourth car coming and I will need an additional parking space.
At the moment both will stay on ground. My garage takes 3 cars. But there is a fourth car arriving and then I will need the extra space.
There is a limit switch which you can adjust to your required lifting height but I will also install a secondary switch just for additional safety. Maybe laser as you suggest. I'll see what's available on the market.
