So today I open the statement and I have two strange charges:

    1) $1,433.60 for someplace called Coastal Contacts out of Vancouver. Turns out this is a contact lens retailer. No one here wears contact lenses.

    2) $49.90 for someplace called ClickBank.com in Idaho that's selling direct digital marketing.

    Amex has been notified...again.

Makes you really worry if you have a debit card. Some places do not use Amex, the only Visa I have is my debit card. I guess I could keep next to nothing in my account just to be safe.

I may apply for a "real" Visa card now just to be safe. What do you guys think?

When some theif bought stuff on my amex card, and Amex figured it out, Amex closed the account and overnighted me a new card.

So they didnt issue you a new numbered card?

I brought this up. They permanently credited the charge from the last time. The CSR said they have opened up a fraud ticket and would probably issue a new card.

Can someone explain to me how this scam would work? How does a $1,400+ charge from a contact lens supplier benefit anyone?

Thanks for the contact lens supplies, I was able to flip them for a tidy profit given my cost :D

Cancel the Amex card asap - obviously compromised. I'm surprised Amex hasn't figured that out. get a new card, always have a backup cc with a decent limit, just in case stupid things like this happen.

Scary stuff, I monitor my accounts online as well but to this day no fraud issues yet.
