Well the 512M is a pretty rare car in relation to the flat 12 familly of cars, not that many were made, I think off hand it was something as few as 527. Of course it was the final evolution of the Testarossa series that first saw light of day in 1984.

I thought I heard the guy say there were only 75 built and this was #42. I don't know if that was the number for USA.

And Jaques, given that it is on the rare side, is it better in any way than the previous ones or just fewer in production?

Yes, 75 of the US version (not 75 total) -- see:

Well it was the final evolution of the TR series yes its is much improved over the original TR, there were the obvious styling tweaks some of which are of dubious taste, those wheels in the pictures for example...

The M had 442 bhp against the 390 bhp the TR had when it was launched in 1984, the interior was tweaked and their were a few other changes most notably the introduction of the 512 TR which in my opinion is the one of the nicest cars of the whole TR series, best of everything in my opinion...and with a Tubi they sound superb.....

Breck, PM me the last 6 #s of the vin and I will see if I have anything on the car. I assume it is a US issue vehicle. Being red/tan it is about 1 of 35 vehicles that came to the US in this color combo.
