The website for Eagles Canyon now has pictures of cars on the track. It doesn't appear to be quite finished, with no curbs, and still in need of backfill and site grading, and maybe a final course of asphalt; but it looks pretty good.

The pics show a 328 and a GT3Cup car, along with some other cars and bikes.

Anyone been there? Thoughts on the track?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Well, I built a little .7mile "training track", and I barely have time to use it; but I'd love to build a real world class road course closer to Austin, if the right deal comes along.

It is encouraging to see some of these "pipedreams" actually getting built.

    See you there.

    Good Moring Texas,

I was actually out at the track on this particular day... For some reason the old Mercedes I was cruising around in didn't make the cut for the photos!!

The layout of the track is fantastic, this is so far and away from being a 'texas track' (ie flat) its hard to believe it is in Texas. The rolls, hills, and drops just can't be appreciated from the photos.

Hopefully you can all make it out soon. I think its going to be awesome once its finished.

    Cheers

    Michael,

will they going to have garages availible for lease out there? right now I keep my two race bikes at a friends shop near denton, it would be nice to have a place at one of the tracks in the CMRA.

Evidently they're running a little behind schedule.
There was a NASA event set for Apr28&29, but Jim at Eagles Canyon confirmed that the facility would not be "race ready" by then.
NASA has moved that wknd to TWS 1.8mile.
I'm disappointed, but it is good to know we've got another track coming.

It was my impression they would be built as soon as they have 24 (?) people confirmed who want them.

The last I spoke with Jim they had 16 or so occupants confirmed.

Went with the Porsche crew, had a great time. Several Fchatters were out too.

This was the first time I've ever been on a track, and it's amazing how much fun it is. LOTS of elevation changes, and it's a really wide track so slow folk like me can stay out of the way of the fast guys. I think this thing is going to be really popular, and I'm even thinking of springing for a junior membership.

Some pics from today, unfortunately none on-track or on the road but I was a bit busy then ;)

WOW!! I had a blast. The wife (the blonde sitting in the blue 308) and I are trying to figure out what our best choice for a membership is.

The old 308 did pretty well, I have a (bigger) exhaust leak now, but overall she held together.

We did run out of gas on the way back home. The low fuel light came on, but the guage still siad 3/8ths full, one of the other ATS guys brought me some gas. I guess I'll trust the light over the guage next time.

I'm jealous I couldn't go, was on baby duty, but still managed to deliver the Challenge back home to MSR. Saw some good NASA racing action with Rob Cohen in 911, Ron Rippe in SRX7, Randy Aust in 348 C, Colin Cohen in 355 C, and Mark McKenzie in 355 C. Will was also out there spectating. Gave 104504 a good post winter bath and she's all ready to get hot next time.

Will heard an interesting rumor about Eagles Canyon today, but I'll let him share. You know how rumors go.

I see Eagle Canyon's lowest level membership...

As I'm interested in this too, can you explain your reasons of getting at least this membership over a MSR membership?

I plan to be a member of EC and MSR - no reason both cannot succeed and those that want to support one over the other are pretty short-sighted and apparently not interested in diversity.

I am taking the same approach as Keith. I have already joined EC and can't wait for the chance to get on track there and intend to keep my membership at MSR.

Sorry, my wallet can't handle that kind of diversity. I have to pick one were I have access to test & tune now and then, otherwise all the racing organizations and clubs will give me plenty of diversity at ALL the tracks. If EC was 100% private and didn't run clubs or guests, then I would probably join because it looks like a spectacular course. Otherwise I can afford one membership plus all my racing, but not two.

For people with street and race cars that are just doing track days, I don't see a reason to join either track. You can do Drivers Edge and PCA for < $300 a weekend with no other costs, instructors, and less variance in group speeds. So not only do you save money, but you get the diversity of several tracks like MSRC, TWS, MSRH, TMS, and Eagles Canyon. Terrell too when they're done.

Joining a track just doesn't make financial sense unless you are rich and/or it is a biz expense. Which is most often the case.

Too true, Rob. My dream, being an elitist pig, is that eventually the members get more run of the place and the DE groups less. Now that MSR is catching up on dues, I really do hope there are more member days and fewer DE days, as it really is a disservice to the loyal members and motivates folks NOT to join when most of the nice weather months are taken up with non-member events. On the other hand, being able to come to the track any time you like (left over from DEs, etc), is a great luxury and means that if you have a mechanical issue, bad weather, etc, your event is not blown.

I would like to see more racing, like 6 events or so a year at MSR.

But the poverty thing is a bit much - you elect to have a 355 Challenge car, and that is not exactly cheap to operate .... $2K to join EC and $100/day to run is not that bad when you compare it to, say, a set of rotors and pads and tires . . . .

I originally joined MSR because my work schedule and DE schedules did not match up well. I would register for an event only to be called away on business. Being a member allowed me to have flexibility and ensure I could feed what was becoming a growing addition at the time. My first solo laps were on a member day, I joined just months after my first DE.

I would join EC also except for two reasons:
    1) I live in Plano, my cars are stored at MSR, and EC is North of Denton. The logistics are miserable for me and it would be a real pain to leave from Plano to pick up the car only to head North again.

    2) I expect I will get plenty of EC track time in from DEs, races, and being a guest of others. Many of the friends I had as guests at MSR are joining EC. We'll be able to swap guest days with each other.

MSR will be my home track for practice and test and tune and I fully expect to get 3-4 weekends in a year at EC without becoming a member. That should be a nice balance.

I think jakermc has nailed the issue of membership vs access. If your car thing is confined to ownership and especially if you are fearful of using your toy as a daliy driver, then membership of both offers more opportunities for track days. However if you also race and the car is not street legal then without a race organization behind you, you have to select a base to operate from or be able to keep your cars at your homestead! Saddling up the trailer, choosing and loading tires, fuel, parts, safey gear eyc can be a time consuming process that eats into he track opportunity especially in Summer when the afternoon is th elast desireable time to be running the car. Add to which you have to do it all in reverse when teh day is over. Assume you have between 4 and 8 SCCA or NASA events a year makes the option of running at different tracks for "fun" of limited value.

I noticed an interesting post on the ECR website about the Jr Membership. http://www.eaglescanyon.com/php/news.php#43

So, they really don't want junior members, and if you don't get one by July 1, your cheapest option is the $5000 membership with the $250 (plus tax!) monthly dues.

Just a heads up if you're interested in the track -- which I am...
