    Is there any secret to removing the drop gear casing on a 3X8? It seems mine is on there pretty well. Looks like maybe some type of white colored sealant was used to seal it.

    Nope- no secrets. I have used a piece of hardwood in the top fill hole to gain a little force while pulling the cover towards you.

    There are alignment sleeves around some of the studs, so those might be a little corroded.

    That's an excellent idea with the hardwood.

    Now I just noticed there is no gasket shown for the casing/cover in the parts manual. Does it not use a gasket? If no gasket what is recommended as a sealant?

    Correct- no gasket. Just use an anaerobic to seal it. Make sure and clean off the old stuff first.

    Thanks for the info. Sure seems weird they use gaskets just about everywhere else but not there. A source of revenue and oil leaks taken away! :)

    It's a very precise fit in there, especially considering that middle drop gear is floating. That is the reason for the alignment sleeves. The joint/flange from case to cover is VERY precise, and should not leak with the correct sealant. I assume that the drop gear cover is part of the machining process during assembly, so is actually specific to your particular engine.
