I know what NASCAR is, but who is JPM?

Seriously, he'll be lucky to survive the season.

There are only 4 rookies in the Cup right now.

    David Ragan, 5th in points
    JPM, 20th in points
    David Reutimann, 41st in points
    Paul Menard, 43rd in points

Still early for the above points standings to really say a lot, but he certainly has a shot.

Isnt A. J. Allmendinger in Nascar as well?
I think Monty has a good shot at the rookie of the year title. I believe he will do very well in the road courses.

Technically yes, but he has yet to qualify for a Nextel race in 4 attempts (2 last year, 2 this year)

If he wins according to accumulated points, good for him. Still a D**k :)
Winning short of that, likely $$$ motivations, i.e. Latin/Latin-American appeasement.

Would you drive for free ?
OF COURSE there are $$$ motivations, and I seriously doubt he's racing for 'Latin/Latin-American appeasement'.
Professional drivers race for money, amateurs don't.

I think he was saying that should JPM not have the greatest number of points, but is awarded Rookie of the Year on more subjective grounds, then that would be of monetary motivations through Latin American appeasement.

I dont think he´ll do a thing in NASCAR...he was used to bump everybody at F1 and nobody will pick the fight back but schumi...

...now if he bumps...he´ll kiss the wall, Newman sent him into the wall last year for bumping his car side until he punctured a tire... newman dived in, changed the tire, 25 laps to go and gave him the final slap...

2 out of 5 he´s DNF due to crashing against the wall...he wont do a thing this year...

He´s just escaping his own mouth, he said he was better than michael, than kimmi, than alonso and couldnt prove a thing different from he being an arrogant ass...

he´s always picking it with the crew, the set up, the car, the tires...he´s never the one to blame

To my understanding JPM wants to be the first person to race at Indy in 3 different series of cars IRL, F1, and Nextel Cup. After that, he will probably vanish from racing.

He is a future Nextel Cup champion. He has won at every level he has raced at and twice finished 3rd in the WDC, behind only the Ferraris. JPM is a much better driver than some of you want to give him credit for.

JPM can't be counted out yet. He has had a lot of success in his past. If you actually look at his wins and where they were at it is pretty impressive, I wish I had a resume like that. Once he gets his head together in NASCAR he will tear them up.

    Yes, he will.

Bill France has an agenda with him. From covering him exclusively in Mexico, to featuring him with the other super-elite Nascar Drivers in the new PPV on-board DirecTV race service.

I'm not saying it's fixed, but certain "impressions" can, will and are presently being made about the Columbian.

There's only 6 drivers even eligible for the rookie competition, and 2 of those haven't even qualified for a race yet.

Brandon Whitt -- running a limited schedule for CJM Racing: he's a non-factor

A.J. Allmendinger -- Red Bull Racing Camry: Still hasn't qualified the car for a race, and the team doesn't have any owner points. He's basically DOA unless his team somehow scrambles into the top 35 by the 5th race. Not likely...

David Ragan -- Roush Racing #6: Taking over a good car, with a solid team behind him. Got the owner points to get in the first 5 races, and is looking good thus far. Probably the odds-on favorite to win the rookie title.

David Reutimann -- Another Camry driver in a new team. Has actually managed to qualify the car twice, but still hasn't broken the top 35 in points. Shows some talent but the Toyotas just aren't there yet, and he needs to keep it out of the wall. 2 DNF so far. Long shot at best.

Paul Menard -- DEI team, but a new team so once again no prior year owner points. Failed to qualify for Daytona, but ran a respectable 20th at California, ahead of Montoya. He currently has fewer points than Reutimann, but he's at least finished a race. Better odds than Reutimann, longer odds than Ragan.

Juan Pablo Montoya -- Not many rookies have won in F1 and at Indy. Still, Ganassi cars haven't been the best over the past few years -- Ragan has the nod there in the Roush machines. At least JPM has the lock-in for the first 5 races, which will help give him a leg up on rookies running for brand new teams. He's probably the only guy who can give David Ragan competition this year for Rookie of the Year. Still, it's a long learning curve.

Prediction: JPM will win a Nextel Cup race before Ragan does, but Ragan wins the Rookie of the Year.
