Ok, there are some excellent people here and I have definately met a crowd of folks here who share a similar passion about cars and having a few hours of fun after a looong week. Now while this is all fun and good, I can't help but feel a pang of guilt about me posting and organizing runs on a Ferrari Messageboard. Regardless of the fact that this is the tri-state area, and I know there has been no public vocal expression of annoyance; I certainly am very aware that I am interloper in these waters. So that being said: how can we continue on this tradition of having fun with similarly minded folks without inundating the tri-state Ferrari folks who want to do their own thing?

I am not advocating another web site (I've run one before and I just don't have the time), but I want to get an open idea here. For me the web site is merely a method to meet real people, the site in-of-itself is unimportant.

In short: how can we balance bringing the wide range of tri-state enthusiasts together to have fun?

How about forming a driving club-no web site to maintain, just get everyones number and e-mail.

Hey Jay -- Good to see you and the Testarosa this weekend. I think most of us eventually do the email/phone thing and take things off-line (whoo I feel like a true consultant).

It's not a bad idea; any other takers on the email thing? Wouldn't mind being able to a) not waste bandwidth here b) control attendance.

How about if we also have a set spot we meet on Sundays and just leave it open? Like we could meet where at the same spot as last Sunday, only this time there is no plan to drive afterwards. IOW, meet up shoot the breeze (listen to Shivam make his snappy jokes about the Matrix from 2002 in person) and then just call it a day? Any takers?

A few years back i used to ahve a crazy list of emails from people who used to come ou driving on any nice day. List eventually got too big and too many people came out so it got more and more difficult to have fun and be safe. Unable to exclude certain people I just stoped doing runs.

I am planning a few more drives this year similar to last years poker run/bikini car wash I put on.

I think I may know what you mean. After being on the forum for a little bit and having attended a few runs the thought briefly crossed my mind with a chuckle that although this is a Ferrari site, there's seems to be more non-Ferrari owners here. But in my view, you guys are the 'New York Tri-State'. The guys that keep this forum alive. And I'm sure the Ferrari guys and girls don't mind because you guys organize some very nice runs and get-togethers. They're probably happy you're here. But if you wanted to try something different, I'm not sure what else you could do outside of another website. Maybe ask the administrators to host another side forum, perhaps private? Not sure.

Nabbs- you are definitely onto something with a steady meeting spot on Sundays for chatter etc. I think we should pick a spot that has a place to eat/drink (basic coffee donuts place, not a restaurant) that is centrally located for all of us and is at the same time/place/day every week. Who ever shows up, shows up -you could work something like that. Personally I would like someone to form a driving club that goes out once a month for a leisurely drive(we will have to put a 60mph limiter on Joeys car) to a final destination that includes a lunch. It can be set up to go to places of interest etc.

Hey Rob, que passa hombre, I remember those days. I do agree with Rob on the safety issue. Everything is fun until something happens and families are ruined (seen it happen).

I am ok with any way of communication, or with any event we do. I myself drive within the limits (car, road, traffic volume). If the road is deserted...well..Rob can attest to this. But if there's traffic i'm always the last one to get to the destination, and Rob can attest to that too.

What we can do from time to time is rent out tracks. Two immediately come to mind-Raceway Park and Pocono Raceway. Did this with Raceway Park with a Corvette club i belonged to years ago. It was a blast. We got the track to ourselves, the control tower, etc. I even did a very long burnout in reverse. It was a blast and you get to run as much as you want and see if your car is as fast as it should be (test and tune).

Did Pocono Raceway with the Viper Club when i had my GTS. Actually it was a Ferrari/Viper Club event. I took my ZR1 there, and had a ball. Most of all i realized how much i didn't know about driving and my car. For example after the first few laps the car was running so hot i had to get off. Learned all i had to do was run one gear higher and keep the RPM's down. Also learned the limits of the car.

Presently there's a group of us (less than 10 cars) that go out almost every nice sunday morning. Usually we wind up at Captree (out by Ocean Pkwy-Jones Beach). We have coffe there then we go out for breakfast or lunch. We are not all angels, and many miles of road have so few motorists traveling that five-o doesn't get phone calls. How we get together is we communicate by phone. I call you, you call him, etc.

Anyway there are lots of ways to communicate and whatever works is ok with me. As far communicating on the Ferrari website i personally don't see a problem with that. I would think that all the traffic is good for the sponsors, etc. etc.

Hey i'm sorry i missed that one. Will be there for the next.

    Nabbs,
I don't think there's any problem with organizing runs on this message board. The reason we are all here is that we are like-minded and like Ferraris, irrespective of the cars we actually drive. A new site is not necessarily the best option, because you then miss out on the dynamic of new and current members here on Fchat.

If you wanna do a run, post it up. If no one replies, then you have your answer: the people here are not interested. But as you know, many of us here are interested, and many do not own Ferraris.

I think you're safe as long as you don't come on here and do nothing but bash Ferraris. But in my case, when I own 2 of them that are almost always in the shop, please don't mind while I bash away :D

Ok, welll I'm glad to hear that I am not pissing off anyone.

I am really into what Jay said: a spot where we could meet up on a Sunday morn, hang out grab and maybe catch a bite. Additionally, not to sound snobbish: but I want smaller and low-key. Last weekends run was too chaotic, and frankly I feel too old to be scolded by a cop who is my age or younger :)

So David, you're a chitty guy in the rest. bizz -- got any suggestiong for a centrally located eatery we could meet up at?

Neil: I'd like to replicate Captree but perhaps with a smaller group? I'd rather have quality then the quantity Captree offers. Would rather chill with a few homies then walk around a huge parking lot of cars (jmho).

    Thanks all, interesting perspectives!

We need a location similar to Captree State Park. Basically someplace with a large parking area to hang out and bulls**t.
South Street would become a problem with too many tourists and the eventual security guards being a pain in the arse.

Does Van Cortland Park have any large areas we could meet up?

Flushing Meadows Park can accomodate, but isnt convenient for the Jersey Crew.

Captree is also a hike, but that hike makes from some spirited driving.

Maybe have a different location each week or month. This way everyone gets to partake.

    Just my 2 cents.

Hovik's spot in Edgewater is pretty good. Lots of space, and easy access to major roads without much traffic (except when the highway idiots close the GWB down to one lane on a weekend).

Jay et al -- I was actually able to secure a spot for Sundays at an established Fcar dealership in the upper Westchester area (if you can guess the name don't post it here please). However, this cannot become a Captree free for all where anyone shows up as this will really piss off the dealership. Nonetheless, I think this would be an excellent place to go and is only a short relaxing drive from Manhattan.

Again, not to be snobbish, but I would like to keep the word on this small since I have a friend at this particular company who is pulling rank on this.

    What do you guys think?

Nabbs - i think that's a great idea. But it would be cool to have someplace perhaps less restrictive, so it can be a bit more open to folks. But since I have absolutely no suggestions I will keep my mouth shut & simply appreciate your effort & ideas :)

What about meeting at the Cloisters before the runs like we used to back in the day?
