sounds almost like you've lost one bank completely ,from the symptoms.......

others more knowledgable will chime in hopefully...

The Manual for all 1970s GTBs is the GT4 Work Shop Manual.......

It doesn't have enough pictures IMO...

    (Joke, it's typewritten verbage only)

Have you posted in UK Section to find some mates to help? They seem a friendly lot.......

mine used to do a similar thing, eventually traced the fault to the distributers, both of which had to be replaced, expensive but worth it!

The best place for things like especially with martin being Uk based is Superformance, I have bought bits from them and they are brilliant on some prices and a very quick turnaround

If it will only reach 4000 RPM, you are almost certainly only running on one bank. Shut the car off, do not run it. You can do serious damage to the car (i.e. burn it to the ground) running it on one bank.

If it runs at all, it's not the injection. That leaves ignition. Check the coils, distributors, wires and the cranks sensors. My money is on a crank sensor being bad or a connector from one of the crank sensors. Also check the grounds on the ignition ECUs.
