Well since it will be my first time visit there as well I can't give you any advice. But I am wondering whether I should buy the helicopter ride from downtown to the track or not. Safety is my only concern.

Andreas take the helo ride!!! I took a great ride over the track in Imola and wasn't a tad concerned about safety - go for it!!

I love helicopter rides, have taken many and would have done the one in Imola if I hadn't been so busy partying with Eddie's dad...:)

It's just that a former Eastern Europe helicopter makes me nervous. OTOH I have flown in a Russian fighter jet, so what the heck! :)

I wore a pressure suit and breathed oxygen. The G forces weren't really the issue, battling nausea was tougher, but I kept my cookies in. :)

I'll be in the EU from April 18th to July 5th, so any of those in between I can drag my butt to. :)

I had the opposite epiphany after the flight: I realized it was a good decision not to pursue a career as a figher pilot...

Thanks, Andreas, for mentioning the helicopter ride (and Carol for encouraging it). I thought it would be cool when I noticed its availability, but kind of passed over it on the basis of cost. You two are causing me to rethink that...

Costs aren't that bad. I think it comes down to about $ 300 for the roundtrip. Any helicopter ride is $ 100 to begin with, this one actually goes a bit of a distance, gives you unique sight seeing opportunities, avoids a traffic jam and goes to a prime event.
