Any ideas on the price the heritage plates went for? Shannons has not updated thier site.
will be interesting to see...... as a side note, QLD #21 made 97.5k last month so our market is slowly starting to move
140k for a VH charger, and i sold mine for $2200 in 1984...........................................hindsight
the old man smacked up (repairable) his HG350 GTS back in early 70s and decided he couldnt be bothered, got a new XB GT instead...hindsight again
and me selling my X-U1 in 01 for 15k, and it was a bathurst one at that....................dumb, the best one in aust was in sydney for 20k and i thought he was on drugs..................hindsight
if only chrysler knew they would worth that much now they would have kept a couple of examples instead they have a an array of sigmas, valiants and scorpions in their possession............like derr
The heritage plates got some good figures, circa $70k for a 3-number. I think Shannons will need to review their '$25-40k' estimate from now on..
theres that 'h' word again squire $120k for the HK Munro, these things are pulling big $ Will be interesting to see when the bubble bursts, SURELY it cant go on forever. Monaro for $250k in a few yrs? Surely not..
I am not surprised. The mega money 1 and 2 digit plates had to have some flow on effect. Interesting to see other states values moving. With the growing population of southern state immigrants it was kind of obvious that values were going to head up in QUEENSland.
yeah makes sense have you followed their values for a long time? have you found theres been some dips/plummets in their value owing to economic factors of the time, or has it been a steady rise all along?
everything runs in cycles, a 246 could have been bought in 02 for 100k now they are 200k+, go figure. i still believe that things will go down, there is no saying when however given the right time all things go down. Its just knowing when to jump in and buy. I am sitting in trepidation that the GT4 and urraco together as a pair will be worth something....one day. My theory is that being a pidgeon pair in concourse cond they should command a decent price...............when............maybe in 10 years!
no its people getting caught up in the hype of the moment......disposable income at an all time high, given a few % points on the interest rate front might get things going or a change of government (federal) might also be the cataylst. And the big plus is if the drought continues for 07 there will lots of apartments in the snow fields for sale...........climate operates in cycles as well.
the R5T was a punt, seeing there are only a handful in Aust could see a price increase, but i'm not holding my breath..........just yet
fair to say the fact that cashed up baby boomers that are getting all nostalgic about 60s and 70s race cars is playing a big part? i wonder how the youngsters of today will value the GTHO/Monaro style cars in a few decades... great point re: alpine real estate too...they are predicting a drought break this year given el ninos 'finished' - however will we get the cold temps required for snow too? i remember hearing some doomsdayer saying by 2020 little to no snow in vic...hmm, if its cyclic this wont be the case, but the planet IS warming up...
I have followed values as an interested observer since the mid 1980's and as an investor for about the last 7 years. All asset classes have peaks and troughs, probably more so with the esoteric ones such as number plates. I actually see plate values going higher still in the short term. I believe that self managed super funds are driving the market to a certain extent. This year will see a one off bulge in the coffers of self managed funds with the once off $1 million per member contribution limit ending 30th June this year. There will be a lot of money looking for a new home over the next 12 months. The results of the Shannons auction are quite astounding. Every single number plate found a new home, and some serious $ were paid for some not particularly collectible plates IMHO. You can even see some signs of muscle car mania in some cases. Here are the results: # 429- $70,000 # 353- $63,000 # 2-123- $34,000 # 38-888- $22,000 # 58-015- $15,000 # 8-168- $32,000 # 13-501- $20,000 # "RR"- $36,000 # "V8-HSV" $7600 # "302-C" $1250 # "355V" $4300 # "GT" $53,000 # "GT-O" $17,000 # "V8 FPV" $4800 # "SS"- $36,000 # "RT" $12,000 # 765 $75,000 # 9-444- $31,500 # 30-000 $27,000 #66-111 $27,000 FWIW, the plates above noted "x" have little collectibility IMO. I hope the buyers know something that I don't.
amazing prices ,then what about the money being paid for nothing Ford, holdens.Like GT XAs and XBs for 35,000 plus or that fairlane for 21,000.Or a GT XY (not a phase3 ) sold for 100,000 its IMO stupid money.
