I have some rather remarkable tulips for sale. These are original Dutch tulips, imported from Turkey circa 1600. These won't last long.

Over $7K for an incomplete set. This is really getting crazy.

    Sold at $7900

And yes, seller is well known and reliable. I'm also sure they're real.

I hate this new system on ebay. No way to tell who the bidders were. Winner is a Brit.

At this rate of inflation it won't be too long before you can trade a really nice Dino for a couple of books and pouch...

I feel really guilty when I read mine, or worse, use the tools to turn a screw on the car....

I should knock it off, huh?

Leonard Green has built a reputation on honesty, consistency and quality. Perhaps this is why his articles do so much better than that retailer in the Eastern USA.

I hate the new system too.

They threw out the baby with the bathwater, and my ebay purchases have decreased -significantly-. Before, I could kind of figure out who's who, make my own decisions, assess my own risks and protect myself (or not) as best as I could. Now I guess I am supposed to trust ebay to protect me from shill bidders. Not gonna happen, isn't happening.

If you are actually a bidder on the item, you can see who else was bidding after the auction is over. Of course that doesn't help you decide how much to bid, or if you won the auction and were "pushed up" by a shill, you have no recourse.

    WTF is this about??

Len's a great guy, but this was an extraordinary condition pouch. His other one for sale at the same time on ebay, a rattier late pouch, did not fare nearly so well.

I don't see his stuff doing any better, or worse, than anyone elses stuff. I reckon if I put my books/tools up for bid, they'd fetch similar money as would any other really great condition stuff.

Is there something you're trying to tell us here?

    Dave

Ebay was trying to thwart the massive proliferation of fraudulent "second chance offers" and scams resulting from their member-to-member contact by hiding the users from the viewers. You're right, it makes shills a lot harder to detect and the whole Ebay system is now even more questionable.

Yahoo auctions has a superior auction format, only one userid per person and each is fully verified before being allowed to participate. Member to member contact is not possible unless it is to a seller. Pos/Neg feedback can be changed/resolved by both parties at any time. Ebay has been playing catchup and adding features from Yahoo as their weaknesses are revealed.

Unfortunately, Yahoo just doesn't have the traffic.

I have ben dealing with len green for many years. he has always been a reliable and good guy. I don't know who the east coast guy is, but I have never been screwed by anybody in the ferrari world I have dealt with. the ferrari world is very small, any legit seller wanting to stay here isn't going to play silly games.

the other pouch isn't a 246 pouch. remember, there is another style dino too - hence the price.

I really don't understand it. It's rediculous what people pay for complete (or even incompete) took kits, owner's manuals etc. Look at this one-

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FERRARI-250-OUTSIDE-PLUG-TOOL-KIT-LUSSO-SWB-CALIFORNIA_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10076QQitemZ290087534784QQrdZ1

this POS had reproduction hammer, grease gun, etc etc...and didn't meet the reserve. I understand this particular example is extremely rare, but come on. My first used 911 cost $100 less than this took kit bid to and that still wasn't enough for the seller.

I understand markets- supply, demand, fool's and their money departed, etc. but this pains me. It pains me because I can't help but think that many sellers will remove these items and only include them with the sale of their car if the buyer pushes hard enough asking for the seller to produce them or lower the price of the car. They'll then go sell them on ebay or elsewhere.

I'm looking at the newer Ferraris (355's mostly), and even those kits are over $500. And the car covers add more to that if they are not there, or the manuals- and this is a model that's 10 years old and produced in relatively high quantity (for a Ferrari). This whole thing is out of control.

    Well, that's my rant. ;)

the prices of the 355 and 360 manuals, red car covers, toolkits, etc. have been consistent over the last couple of years. most of these items are fairly common and easy to find. why they were seperated from the car, i couldn't say.

for the vintage stuff, it didn't have much value back then and was more often kept as souviniers. most of what shows up on ebay is from people who had it way back then and has been sitting on a shelf or is from someone who bought lots of stuff as a package and is thinning it out.

there are very few places that you can go and buy this stuff. you need patience and pockets, but it can be had. ebay's new policy has me very suspect of current pricing trends, but remember (in theory at least), someone had to be outbid to sell to the winner at the final price.

the additional instructions looks to be in good condition, that book alone isn't cheap. the warranty book has to be worth something good, especially since the car still exists. i think in the end, the buyer did very well here, even given the conditions.

after all, if you owned this car, wouldn't you spend far mor ethan this for it's books?
