I am looking to trade in my Maserati on a F355 but I have a few questions that I didn't see answered in this forum. What are the differences between a Euro spec and a US spec vehicle? What are the items that would need to be changed to bring it up or down to US spec? I am loking at a very clean Euro car but need to know what it will take or if I should just look for a US spec car. I would like to do this work myself. The car has low miles and is a 1999 so I shouldn't have to work worry about the valve guide issue (at least I hope not). Thanks for the input and hopefully I will be able to join the brotherhood soon.

    Best Regards to all

Interesting thought. My guess is that the late model (1999) F355 is going to be a nearly "world car" like the 360 is. When ppl could not get a US 360, some brought in Euro cars which were identical to the US cars except for some labeling. I know at least one person that did this. There was a problem having the car registered in CA, but this one was in UT.

That said, I would guess that, if it were the same case where Ferrari is making world cars in 1999, the mods are minimal if any so long as the car had passive restraints (air bags), catalytic exhaust and US spec headlamps.

    Anyone else?

A "world car" is a vehicle that does not require different bumpers and emissions equipment etc for different markets. Since the US is a huge market for Ferrari, they found it was easier to make all the expensive components such as emissions all the same no matter the destination. A world car that was not destined for the US would have to be updated in the lighting and labelling, as far as I know. If I am talking out my a$$ someone please correct me. :D

I can say that all 355's are definitely not a "world car".......and why would Ferrari do this...it would hurt their dealer market. If I could buy a Euro car and bring it into say the USA(with just sticker changes) the Ferrari dealers in the US would not make a sale. FNA rips off the US customers with their screwy right side vs left side parts pricing ALL the time.... that is why anyone buying parts should get it from Ricambi(Jack Russell Racing)....atleast Daniel can get it from Italy and save you some BIG bucks over FNA.

Yep, what he said. A world car concept is mostly used by small manufacturers as a way of streamlining their production lines. It is essentially based on the idea that u make one car good for most of the world markets and then make minimal regional changes to suit where necessary. Obviously Great Britain and other RHD market changes are substantial. But the differences between legal requirements in Germany and the US, 2 of the largest Ferrari markets, are minimal. Most small volume manufacturers, including Ferrari, adhere to this concept. I just don't know when they formalized the policy.

I know the F550's need to have the conversion done but I am not sure what needs to be changed on the F355. I'm trying to determine if my money is best spent on a US model or if I should take the Euro model (with only 8K on the odometer) and do the conversion. This will be my first Ferrari so I want to make sure that it is the right one for me. I have some experience with the Ferrari family b/c I do have the Maserati but it is not the same as the Ferrari. Thanks for the replies though. It is great to see people being helpful. I have read many posts out here and they are all informative. When I do decide to take this next step, I will be reading even more when I need to do some of the repairs myself.

    Thanks again,

Since I am going to look at a couple of vehicles this weekend, I was wondering if someone knew anything about these vehicles. One of them is a euro model. I'm not sure what will need to be changed but it looks like a nice vehicle.

    ZFFXR48A0X0116778 - euro

    ZFFPR48A7S0103249 - us spec

I did find a nice TDF Blue with a dark blue interior that looks pretty decent but I won't be able to look at this vehicle in person until I can get out to western pennsylvania. Thanks for all of the comments.
