    Ahhh....condos hold enough thank you.

On leslie and Sheppard/ Bayview line there are 4 large Condos almost fully completed. Population density my friend is (3 people average) in those buildings means 20,000 people in that little corridor...guess which hospital they will all go too...North york General. Dont count the 416 area out, pretty soon there gonna build ontop of each other, jsut wait until the DVP will have another 12 lanes ontop ;)

For being the second largest in land mass in the world, it sure feels tight around here....i love the new lots for homes 40 x 78...damn !! Freind of mine is looking in Woodbridge and there slamming a 2,500 sq ft house on that lot size....wow !! talk about loving asking your neighbors for a cup of sugar...lol, pretty soon you'll open the window and grab it off the self yourself.

Bernie is right...move to Montreal! Smallest lot I've ever had (my first home): 7000sft. Next one: 11000sft, and now: 50,000 sft, shared between home 18000 and business 32000. And none of my homes were further than 28 km from downtown Mtl...

isn't this cuz like 40% of our land isn't liveable? but regardless of that, i think joe's right, our healthcare attracts a lot of people to this province, among other things as well..but with the downtown core being so expensive they just settle into the gta...

theres no way we can stop this, and i dont htink we should either, but anything can be controlled, however like i said before, the government is focused on the wrong things..

i dont knwo if its 40%, my old geography prof told us that some portion of canada's land is unliveable because its too cold or something, i'll ask again, but its for the same reasons why some portion of china's land is unliveable, its all mountains, so u'll find little villages everywhere instead of major cities..

Off topic, but the paper got at least one thing incorrect - Mr. L. did not win the sailing competition at the 1976 Olympics. Canada won no gold medals at those Games.

Now back to our regular programming.....

    Just like that? :D

Hey Big Red: when us native Canadians aren't popping enough kids to keep the population steady, let alone increasing to pay for our folks pensions, and there's not enough people to work at a Wendy's in Calgary to keep it open: we need more people willing to work for $10/hr. Not many native canadian's are willing to do that. Certainly not in Calgary (for instance).

Or work the fields in the Fraser Valley in Vancouver (especially with the high fatality rates just with transportation :(). Or drive the dump trucks... Thousands of examples.

Out here in Vancouver there's significant labour shortages, same thing in Alberta. Where are we going to get all the workers from? I'm talking with one guy, myself, out of Europe, to try and get him over here to Vancouver to work with us.

Immigration drives the economy - they work hard, they need to buy houses and cars and appliances and pay taxes. Now if we can just convince the younger generation of the immigrants to stay away from some of the dead-end life options, like gangs and selling drugs. I think it's a small minority but they sure make it rough for everyone else.

Now totally agree that free healthcare for all isn't meant to be a lottery ticket win. Some great points raised.

I suspect there's a few more reasons why we don't all have more kids. We stopped at 2 as well - I think it's a lot more work having kids now than it was 50 years ago - can't just toss them outside for 16 hrs unsupervised anymore, let alone the 100 other things we're now negligent if we don't do. It does cost a heck of a lot of coin to raise kids.

I believe the 40%. Ontario is only 40% liveable, the rest of Northern Ontario is part of the Canadian Shield, ie Solid Rock terrain, no chance for vegetation or development.

They're building condo's in frickin' Woodbridge and Concord now! Next we'll see lofts in Kleinburg......:(

In everything you mentioned you are correct, but there is one major FLAW.

All the immigrants are coming to Ontario....Montreal....not to the locations you mentioned....hence a problem with immigration laws and settlement.

Starboy444....good point about nothern Ontario i remember reading something like that in gr 10 geography.....lol

Is it true the homes (cottages) up there run on propane tanks? Seems like the news in early investigations think in may be a propane leak? Are they still building homes, especially $2M homes with propane?

Yes, my family has a house up there close to that area, and it does run on propane.

I guess there is no natural gas lines installed, possibly because it is close to the lakeshore and you cannot dig 10 feet without hitting water?

Why don't they move them to un populated areas, where they can work, (out of town) and pay local taxes to help grow the small towns?

It seems the more people and more tax money a city makes, the less its citizens get in return. Doesn't make sense eh????? Welcome to Canada.

Wasn't that in 1918, when all Italians were asked to settle in Montreal North / St. Leonard???

Jokes aside, the probable real reasons for "population explosions" in urban and suburban areas are:

    a) lack of government will/money to expand the needed infastructure (roads, sewers, hydro...) and

    b) greed on the part of developers (more housing on less land with less infrastructure = more profits).

I see several houses in my neighbourhood that have actually subdivided their 25000 sft lot in order to sell a 7000 sft new lot

I still wanna know how there gonna get elctricity to all these places.
Plus, id like to know where there gonna go for hospitals.

I havent heard of any new hospitals being built with extra beds, or any new grids to supply the energy.
