I chat and discuss to have fun like everyone else, and talk about Ferrari's and F1 sometimes!

Sounds good, wherever we end up, as long as they serve Barzula or Illy Espresso!

Doesn't Ontario need workers too? We're getting a healthy immigration influx in Vancouver - and pretty well only immigrants working in the Farming industry (that the immigrants are much harder on their own kind than we'd over be is another story). I believe the Feds are quite willing to support immigration to Montreal and Quebec to balance out the vote in another referendum - most immigrants aren't separtists.

We're getting a few new hospitals built out here - Abbotsford is getting a new one, just a few miles east of PETER. A PPP deal to get the debt off the public books.

My defn of Native Canadian, for this discussion, is someone born here. No need to be 1,000th generation Canadian imo.

I think the point is not that we need workers in Ontario or Canada. What we need is better paying jobs to have a higher standard of living.

To open flood gates to immigrantes to work at Tim Hortons or drive a cab is not a move in the right direction. All mid class jobs have been shifting to US parent companies, or Asia or India for outsourcing.

So back to my original concern, do we really need to have 250,000 new landed immigrants in Canada every year, and then have them settle in Ontario and Quecbec for the most part. My answer would have too be ..NO.

I can agree with that, although we are getting a lot of highly educated immigrants in our area of the world, Israel, Venezuela, Pakistan, and almost all I've met have been very hard workers.

High value jobs are great - out here in BC the vast majority of new jobs have been small businesses. My guess is this is the future is made up of more small nimble companies can finally compete very aggressively with the big Goliaths.

I've just hired a young kid out of college - it'll take 2-3 years to train him. But can only do that with so many - still need the skills from somewhere - and if it's Europe I'm ok with that.

Off topic - but was involved in a film shoot today, and was very impressed with how hard working the "kids" on the crew were.

If I understand this chart correctly, it looks like Quebec is getting just as many immigrants as BC - I didn't know that. Ontario, though - wow... You guys put something in the airplanes to steer everyone to TO?

That is what made Ontario so succesful.

Alot of large companies are leaving downtown TO to setup north of the city, which is good for the growing suburbs, but bad for the city.

Many manufacturing jobs are being lost in Ontario, and in Canada, due to Asian competition, and the NA automakers shrinking rapidly. Most immigrants from overseas have skilled trades diplomas, but cannot find proper work because there is constantly decreasing jobs in those fields. Potentially skilled workers are being forced to work underpaying (min wage) jobs to get an income in this country.

One day when you have kids (babies) you'll know what i mean...it aint black and white anymore....lol !!! alot of grey areas.

An older friend of mine who has teenage kids once said to me when my son was first born. "Kids dont come with a warranty, or an owners manual, good luck trying to figure it out".........boy is he right...lol !!

Hmm, I'm curious what the stats show.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pub/facts2005/permanent/05.html seems to show that 1.5% of the "permanent resident" immigrants are 65 years or older. Likely a very small percentage are landing with immediate medical needs to abuse the system.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pub/facts2005/permanent/28.html seems to show that the actual percentage of middle east immigrants is fairly small, ~ 20%?

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pub/facts2005/permanent/29.html#percentage seems to show that a fair number of employable immigrants are quite highly skilled: 45% are technical, professional, or managerial skilled. Probably about what I would of liked to have seen - one member of each family be able to earn a decent living. Can't see any #'s for actual work obtained, and could well be some significant under employment.

I don't see us being able to do much about the loss of our manufacturing base: It's so much more cost effective to build plants overseas where the regulations are 1/4 of what they are here, and labour costs 10%. Surprisingly, we seem to be able to make money anyways. Forcing people to buy stuff made in Canada certainly isn't the answer - where letting us buy our Japanese and Italian cars is economicaly efficient.

Personally, I'd like to see our school system spend a few seconds to teach the fundamental rules about money: it goes where it's safest and easiest returns, not where someone promise to work hard and try their best, or randomly chant words in front of a blue screen and become gadzillionairs like Hollywood prefers to teach them.
