i don't know who it is but i doubt richard petty. too broad for him. he is one lanky fellow. pretty interesting question though. tom w
I agree that Tex Hopkins in his characteristic lavendar hill mob suit would be the logical choice, but won't the starter be the guy in front of the grid with the flag rolled up in his hand, not somebody standing behind the grid? Ed
I meant to say that I had no clue as to who the 'cowboy hat' at the back of the grid was, but that it was Tex hopkins at the 'front' of the grid.
Sorry, I misinterpreted what you said. Yes, I agree, it looks like Tex with the starters flag. He flagged me off the starting grid at Marlboro in about this era more than once and I remember his trademark running jump with the flag. Always very cool! Then, SCCA began using rolling starts and he would be up in a starters tower, so that was the end to his running jumps. I have no idea who the gent with the cowboy hat is. Nice hat, though! Ed

My thoughts exactly. Mark Wallach, of Nardi wheel fame, was a refueler on that team. He may know who the fellow in the white jump suit is? David

Wet? Guess that's what you call an understatement ;-) Well, Sunday was OK, compared to the previous day IIRC
I hope I am not out of bounds by posting these photos of a model on ebay. Is this 1451? Can anyone document the race and date? It bares a marked similarity to a photo of the real car posted earlier from Lime Rock 1959. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
This is 1085GT as raced by Allan R. Wylie in Marlboro on 01/oct/61 - correct down to missing passenger side wiper arm! Best wishes, Kare
