OK, as if the "we don't take cash" incident wasn't enough. I logged onto my bank account tonight and The Breakers put TWO holds on my credit card - both FAR in excess of the slip I signed (which was for $ 190.60). One hold is for $306.72 and the other for $228.72 -- for a grand total of $535.44. Glad I kept a copy of the reciept. Calling over there right now to raise some hell. As far as I am concerned this conduct constitutes SERIOUS DEMERITS in the Brunch Off. I suggest that the other participants check with their credit card companies immediately!

Must have been a debit card, right??? I used Amex and so far no charges have appeared, but I'll keep an eye on the activity over the next couple of days to see if there's any discrepancy.

...you're right, points are slipping on the overall experience, but we did establish one fact - Fred is the undisputed "WAFFLE KING" :)

Waffles for nearly $200?? I am glad I could not go. For that money, you better give me omelets filled with the best caviar on the planet, shrimp, lobster, and Cristal champagne.

The food court at the mall sounds better.

In all fairness the food was extremely good... yes crab legs, caviar, and a seemingly endless list of other options (outstanding NY strip steak too!!) along with free-flowing unlimited mimosas made it enjoyable. From a pure food quality and variety perspective it will be tough to beat. The "sorry, we don't take cash" policy was a surprise.

    Let me get that straight:

    $100/person for Brunch????

When we do these Brunch-Offs in the future, could you guys disclose howmuch they want per person?

I for one will certainly NOT pay $100 for brunch. I don't even like Caviar.

How much can you eat? $100/person is Morton's rates with Lobster tail and lots of cocktails.

You have got to be kidding me.

It s now 5:30 on Monday and this crap is still not resolved. I have already spoken to the Assistant Director of Food and Beverage (who promised to resolve this "right away") and have a call and "quite the email" into the General Manager of the hotel.

As far as I am concerned, this all counts against The Breakers in "the Great Brunch Off" and at this point would now cast my vote in favor of the Waffle House in Boynton Beach over the Breakers. Good food and old world ambiance is great, but @#$%@#$%ing up my bank account for two days because you have a @#$%@#$%ed up "no cash" policy (that you don't tell anyone about until you bring the cheque) is !@!@$%!#$%ing pitiful.

The Breakers can kiss my ...

For those that use credit cards.......................

Brunch at the Breakers = $200
    Valet Parking = $20
Cup of Coffee on the patio = $10
Dealing with all the aftermath = PRICELESS.......

So last night I get an email back from the GM of the hotel. She was concerned that I ws threatening them with a lawsuit and asked why I couldn't "just give them time to address the situation." I responded to her that it had been 26 hours at that point and that no one, including the Assistant Director of Food and Beverage had even bothered to return my call. Of course, I have not heard back from her.

This morning the ADofFAB calls me and twells me that the holds have been removed, but that I have to check with my bank. Of course, by the time the conversation was over I was already in my online banking screen where, lo and behold, the holds were still very much in place. He said that he had done all he could.

Well, I can do more than he can. I called the office of the President of Bank of America and was put through to one of hi assistants. As a result of that call, ALL charges from The Breakers have now been diallowed.

We will see how fast THEIR calls get returned when they come looking for their $190.00.

As far as the Brunch Off is concerned - The Breakers get a possible 10 points out of 100. Waffle House has them strongly thrashed with 45 points out of 100.

I'll be bringing my own snacks and water to Cavallino next year - look for the guy dragging around a cooler, and don;t forget to ask for the "Breakers Sucks A**" special.

    Hey Scottie;
You might want to re-think the Waffle house in Boyton. I actually was there the other day. It is a health dept. Video on santitation waiting to happen. And not in the positive light way either. Fare warning. I didn't eat but was intrigued with their practices, yikes!!!

No there weren't signs of infestation to be fair. But among many infractions I saw, I drew the line on the cook (a woman) wiping her nose then putting her hand in her pocket then grabbing raw bacon and then stirring raw eggs with her finger. In a sick sort of way it was very entertaining but I just had water.
Oh yeah and the waffle station. Hours of excess over cooked batter everywhere and no one bothering to keep the area clean. I don't know, maybe it's just me.

The Awffle house features great patina on their food. You just have to get used to it.

What is a little food poisoning vs. threatening you for wanting to pay cash, stealing money from your bank account, giving you the run around for two days, and then getting nasty when you threaten to sue for your money back.

My vote STILL goes to the Waffle House.

In 1994 I had a sweet and sour chicken from Mott Street in Hallandale. Started eating and saw a shrimp. "Hey, they put a shrimp in my chicken". Savouring the moment I ate around it. When I finally came to it I realized that shrimp don't fall of the wall and into pots in Chinese restaurants.

I called the restaurant and the nice man said: "bling it back we'll exchange fol new one"

I asked: "you mean you give me a bigger roach for the medium one I have in mine?"

Hinesight, I should have sued him. Would have gotten my Ferrari faster and at least had compensation for the fact that, to date, I do not eat Chinese food.
