gonna be in maranello 3/26-28. was interested in visiting the fiorano track while i'm there. trying to put together a pretty tight schedule. what would be the best day or time of day to catch an f1 car? do they test regularly or is it kinda random? early morning maybe?

The Ferrari Factory tour includes the track, they take you around in a bus at night, then back to hang out during the day. Contact FNA and they might be able to arrange something for you. :)

The good news is that is a week that F1 testing is allowed - the bad news is that most testing will be in Malaysia - you may however be lucky - it is random both in terms of day and time

I believe it is also unlikely that you will be able to do more than listen from the other side of locked gates

I went to maranello last summer, didn't get to see any F1 cars testing but I did get a few pictures through a fence of them testing a couple of F430's

I'll be in Maranello during that same time period. If you're interested, I'll buy dinner at Montana or Cavallino on Monday night. PM me.

Most people just look over the fence at the track. You will know if anything is being tested, you can hear it all over town.
I'd call in advance to make reservations for dinner. Many restauants in Italy are closed on Monday.

thanks for the info. my question about day and time was more because i will be out of town half of my stay so i won't be able to hear them and i wanted to schedule being in town if i knew they tested at a regular time.

My factory tour didn't include anything around the track, just a tour of the buildings. Did I get short-changed? They never offered anything else.

    random question

Ive heard on fifth gear that Ferrari only allows Italian cars on the track, but didnt they once swap their Enzo with Porsche's CGT for testing there? and apparently the CGT was slower in the wet or so it went

I also toured the factory last September. A tour of the track was not included, but we were lucky enough to catch a test in progress. There are plenty of vantage points off the main and secondary roads, just look for the tightest concentration of spectators, they know where the good viewing sopts are.

We've toured the factory several times and PAID for the a couple of the tours which included the bus ride around Fiorano at night/hotel included/longer tour/etc. We've also attended an F1 Test Day (April '05 - we had all arrangements made to go last year but it was cancelled due to both cars being wacked in Australia) which was extremely nice .... definitely paid dearly for that one but was worth every Euro (went into areas normally off-limits) . The Owner's Tour which one pays for hasn't been offered since last year - these are normally offered on a limited basis on the Owner's Site.

Faint recalling of them testing Maseratis there, not sure. Did you actually think that a Porsche could be faster than the Enzo?
