Airbus A380 just like a Ferrari!

Lufthansa chief pilot Juergen Raps, who has flown the A380 before, said that despite the superjumbo jet's size, it was nimble and responsive.

"If I were to compare it to driving, you would think this would be like driving a truck or a bus," he said inside the plane's cockpit. "It's like driving a Ferrari."

I wonder what model specifically?

The Airbus was originally called the 308 but since 308 is already taken by Ferrari, they just switched the 8 and the 0 and now became the A380

 

The A380 probably doesn't corner very well, but consider this. The typical long runway is 10,000 to 12,000 feet (or a little over 2 miles) and the A380 has to accelerate to 170 MPH before it rotates for takeoff. I don't know how far down the runway it gets before reaching 170, but it better be before the end, so call it 1.5 miles or less. Most supercars need something about that long to get up to 170 (and they only have to motivate 3000-3500 lbs), yet the A380 has to get up to takeoff speed in that distance with almost 1.2-1.3 million pounds!! That's pretty damn impressive.

Took a look at the 380 in Chicago....pretty inpressive. It's so tall that it looks stubby.

Seriously, though, when you do take in the amount of weight those engines must push, it is quite a miracle that they get off of the ground. 170+ on the ground for over 1 million lbs? It's amazing.

Just think if Ferrari got into the plane business and really made a Ferrari plane...

That's funny. I was driving the other day and my car got a little sideways and I was thinking if only my car handled like an A380.

 

Since you mentioned it, A380 is not exactly a pig either when it comes to flying sideway. (crosswind)

I'm not sure if either A380 or 747 move like a ferrari. He probably spoke in relative term, you know compare to cessna 172, A380 is probably really a big fat but fast sport car.
