It *was* supposed to be... but it had never been fitted to a QV, just a Mondial...

What I am doing here IS Carl checking this out (developing changes to work across the 3x8 model range). It looks to me like there will have to be a mounting plate/tracking adjuster change that will work for the 2V & QV 308s and the 328. The original pieces should work for all the mondial models (except the T, of course). The warm up regulator bracket is going to have to be redesigned for the Quattrovalvole cars (across the model range), but the original design should be fine for the GTSI 2v 308s.

We will get this done, and then it WILL be a true bolt on kit. Except for these issues, the rest of the install and hook up is quite simple (I've only got about 6-8 hours invested in removal and test fitting etc.) I think the finished product kit should go in in an easy weekend, except for turn around shipping and machine work on the damper.

When I talked to Carl some time ago and sent him some PDF of manuals when he was just starting this project, he wanted to have a car there on-site to do it for proper development. He did do that with a Mondial, of course. I'm a little surprised he didn't require Lou's (or whomever's) QV at his shop to take care of the rest of this stuff... that would have been a "smoother" way to properly create the QV kit.

I offered. Nobody brought me a QV. What else can I do?

So we are adjusting a Mondial 2v kit to the 308 QV remotely. I mail the parts to Lou Gaudio, he fits them up, marks them up if modifications are needed, and sends them back so I can adjust my patterns.

Do not loose site that this is a work-in-process, you are actually watching it happen right before your eyes. Trial and fit, modify, trial and fit again. That's how it goes.

Consider the items that Lou has not mentioned: the line-up of the pulleys was perfect the first time he put a straight-edge to it, the silicone hoses are just right, the CIS diffuser is perfect, etc. All we are discussing are the few items that do NOT fit - not the many that do.

I thought that this was obvious. It was always clear to me that there would be minor issues between different models, whether it was body style (Mondial/308) or engine (2v/Qv). Carl only had a 2v Mondial to work on, what else did anyone expect? Every knows that there is a lot more space in the Mondial engine bay than in that of the 308. I am surprised how few and relatively insignificant (so far) the problems are, all things considered.

    Keep going boys.

FYI, as Carl says, this is a work in progress. The development of the QV kit is happening remote control, and right on this forum for all to see and comment on. I certainly did not expect to receive a "bolt on kit", and I find this whole development process quite enjoyable (kind of like having a custom tailored Italian suit designed and made to look and fit perfect). Carl and I talked at length today about how to approach the needed changes, and marked up parts etc. are on their way to 928 Motorsports for re-development. More pics to follow. And yes the pulleys and belt tensioner, CIS diffuser, blow-off system, silicone connection hoses and the cooling system hose are a perfect fit so far.

    Ciao

    Looks good Lou. :)

Can you still work on it while you wait for the mods?

Yes. While Carl works out the mods and does the machine work on the harmonic balancer, I am going to work out the redesign on the warm up regulator mounting and the lower coolant pipe tie in. I'm also going to do the timing belts and change out the normally inaccessable rubber coolant hoses while I'm in there, etc. Also sending the brake servo/master cylinder off to Karp's to be rebuilt. So all in all I'll be a busy guy for a while.

Lou - looking at your pictures.... lets try to screw the Heim joint (Spherical Rod End) up from the bottom into our billet motor mount instead of down from the top like it is on the Mondial.

That would flatten the belt tracking bar quite a bit.

    Let me know.

Thanks to all for your words of encouragement - we have are heads down and are plowing thru it item by item.

Unfortunatley, been there, done that, angle is worse in the other direction due to interferance with the SC. Maybe flip the heim/block assy to the front of the plenum and add an ear to the mounting plate? Otherwise double heim is the way to go.

You might want to change your eBay ad (#200066112588) since it says it's ready to bolt-on and go...

I have to say I agree with your advice here.
Hence my comments earlier in this thread concerning the current commercial Mondial ready product vs the continuing "development process" for the 3082v, 308Qv, and 328 kits.

    just a bump.

Carl got the harmonic balancer and cold air mock up today.

I have the lower coolant line mod worked out (with Carl's blessing and a 928 Motorsports custom fab connector added to the kit) pics to follow.

New school of thought on the tracking rod {from Carl, (Yoda, he is, I think)}, almost sure to pan out and a very clean solution. (again, pics to follow when mocked up)

Found a nifty solution to blow-off valve placement (pics to follow)

Next: warm up regulator bracket, vacuum lines, fuel line re-positioning.

(don't mean to be a tease with lack of pics, out of town on business till Friday)

Other news: rebuilt power brake servo/master cylinder should be back from Karp's by the weekend.
(very, very cool Ferrari freindly people to deal with) http://www.resleeve.com/
Timing belts and tensioner bearings done (thanks to f-chat tech search a real no-brainer !!!) If I would have had Verell's cam lock tool I could have done it even easier, I went the McGiver route (McGiver Swiss Army camlock photos upcoming)
41 mm Gates green stripe hose purchased for the under plenum coolant line replacement.

    Ok,
update. Carl informs me that the harmonic balancer, modified mounting plate, redesigned tracking rod and newly machined plenum mounting block are shiping out along with the new mandrel bent cold air intake tube and coolant hose connector. Carl and I have both had some "other business/personal issues" to deal with so we have slowed a bit on my SC install. I think things will begin to move forward now though !!

On my end, the power brake unit is back and installed and brakes bled, cam belts and tensioners done. ALL of those short coolant pipe connector hoses replaced on the weekend, water pump to radiator. THAT took a full day...lost a little blood...got a sore arm, cursed out loud in made-up Italian profanity. (Nothing a good cigar, and a snifter of Patron Reposado in the hot tub couldn't cure.) Ordered a sump baffle and gasket from Gerry in Australia today, and the QA1 shock install kits should be on their way soon from Verell. Gotta order shocks and springs.

Brought the Raptor V SC and manual to ********** meet here in SoCal for others to scope out on Sunday.

Just thought I would keep everone posted on progress.

Anyone have a comment on the consequense of fitting the SC kit to a Euro Spec Mondial QV which has a standard compresion ratio of 9.2

Would the additional boost cause pre-ignition?

Quite possibly... which is one reason why some of us are going with an alternate approach that includes modern fully programmable/mappable direct-fire ignition (see http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=144089). Be careful!
