Hi, Don't know if any of you caught the recent channel 4 documentary on global warming. if not heres a link http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4520665474899458831 very interesting, always thought it was a load of old bolox! Another excuse to tax us poor souls. :wink3: no need to feel guilty using your ferrari, phew what a relief!
Just shows you there's not a farthing's worth of difference between your ****ed fools and ours. Incidently, Al missed a major speech because of a nasty snow storm. He needs to spend some time in the Dales. It will do him good. Oh, yes. Help this colonial out, will you? I thought it was bollocks. Maybe I've just read too mucj Inspector Banks (my favorite). Cheers.
My father saw this documentary & told me about it + Jeremy Clarkson used his column in Saturday to discuss it. Looks like we're all getting conned. However, I cannot see how the amount of crap kicked out by industry, aircraft, cars etc can be good for the environment but the greens and the government have made a money spinning industry and a **** of a lot of tax out of this. At the end of the day we are going to get screwed by the taxman - it's only a matter of how it is dressed up.
I watched the prog - thought it was good. My dad's a scientist and has been saying for years that there's no way humans caused global warming, and I agree - based on the things I learned in A level geography. That said I do believe we should be moving towards renewable energy sources simply because fossil fuels are running out. Bring on the wind turbines. Environmentalists as a rule wind me up. Another thing that really irks me is those stupid electric cars that you see trundling around London - G Whizz I think they're called. The owners like to think they are smug environmentalists, but never seem to realise that they are displacing the burning of fossil fuel from the car engine to the power station. Based on what I've heard about power stations they probably cause more pollution that 4x4s...
Ha, just twigged. With the writing on the wall for smoking and the associated tax bonanza 'they' have to come up with something else. Always helps if who they screw can be seen as antisocial.
Saw that my self a few weeks ago. I also noticed how it was not put on at a prime time TV viewing slot Both that docu and the All Gore effort should be shown together. I can see how scietist are held to ransom buy the goverments. isnt mars getting slightly warmer? is that our bloody fault As far as the so called oil shortage that they say will happen. IMO no it wont, there is a **** load of it under the land coverd by sea which covers 3/4 of the world. When man kind are able to drill that deep they will tap into it. Then i can drive my fuel guzzeling V8s even more
Preesumably that means since most environmental programming on tv suggests global warming as a fact and a way of life it must be false - good news !
I didn't suggest that it must be false! Take it as one bit of 'evidence' and weigh it up along with all the other information that's available to you.
But the weight of evidence is not balanced. We need to get more information countering the so called Global warming bolloxs. But i cant see that happening. Like i said this channel 4 program really needs to be shown at prime time on TV. And programs like this need to be shown as much as the global warming crap, so people can see how they are being "swindled". I dont think this would happen because the controlling factors of goverment would soon stop it before it left the trap.
There's nothing like an open mind - and that's nothing like an open mind! Basically all you want is someone to produce something that confirms your prejudices.
No i am asking for equal evidence. Like we all should be, and then make an informed decision. Is that so unfair??? And whats not so open minded about that then? What did i write for you to respond so?? For years we have been beaten and robbed by government in our pockets and spoon feed there global warming bolloxs. So why should we not sit up and pay attention when opposing evidence is produced and say "hang on a mo"? Though these opposing bits of evidence are not on the same scale as the crap we are spoon feed. MB: I wonder if you are one of the happy ones who cant wait to pay £400 a year in road tax just to use your ferrari for a few months a year.
That's all very fair and balanced. What isn't is the next bit - Read my message. Sitting up and listening to both sides is exactly what I advocated. What you are saying, though, is that despite the weight or balance of the evidence being on the environmental side of the global warming debate it's nevertheless 'bollox' and 'crap' and you're not interested in listening to it.
When one gets fed only one type of food, one gets very easily tired. And i like many are indeed tired of this global warming "crap" being forced down us with no opposing view until now. Simple. You swallow it if ya want to, enjoy it dude. You maybe believe every thing the government tells ya, hey knock ya self out
Has it ocurred to you that we haven't heard much of the 'opposing' view because there's really not a lot of evidence to support that view? ;-)
You mean like the thousands of years of climate change that naturally occurs in the world? Or the documented records of the ice caps melting hundreds of years ago? Or when grapes were growing on Adrian's wall nearly a thousand years ago? Or as in the documentary as in the link above, the scientists not getting there funding if they say anything opposed to what the governments say And government scientists deliberately missing out vital factors in there reports just to swing the factors in a certain direction? Have you seen the above documentary dude? There arguments stand up very well indeed. You really don't need to be over run with these types of documentaries because proof is proof. Our time on this world has been so small in comparison of the history of the world. Things have always naturally changed climate wise throughout that history and the land mass has constantly changed. Though it has me thinking because mars is getting warmer and the moon colder, is this our fault as well MB: Also it really does not matter how much evidence the government produces, because that proves nothing IMO. I mean look how much evidence they had regarding weapons of mas destruction
Ah, I think I understand. You accept that there is global warming, but not that we have anything to do with creating it. Fair enough. I assume you also accept that the effects are likely to be catastrophic and if so should we not do what we can to minimise that catastrophe? I don't know anything about Adrian and his grapes but I suspect it doesn't mean it was warmer then than it is now - the Romans had glass and knew a thing or two about central heating.
Well a heated debate! Carbon dioxide accounts for 0.03-0.06 % of our planets atmosphere, most of it (95%) naturally produced through evaporation of sea water vegetation, animals etc. so if human kind produdces the other 5% . 5% of 0.05% is to my reconning is 0.0025% or 1/2500th of a percent, so changing your car to a greener one is about as much use as a 'goose farting in a fog'! I am sure this debate will run on and on, but given that mars and venus are rising in temperature also, maybe Gordon Brown has a stealth tax up his sleeve for astronomers ? Maybe they are transmitting greenhouse gases to our neighbouring planets through their refracting lenses ! Wake up and smell the roses. We've been sold a pup to restrict global use of fossil fuels by developing countries, to make us feel guilty and, which means there will be more for us in the future, and landed a very nice money spinner for the treasury into the bargain. There are too many people making a living out of this for it to go away now, we'll have to prepare ourselves for a 'cavalcade of green issues'. Anyway I'm looking forward to summer, global warming bring it on !!!!!!!
End of. Great post, I don't see any harm in trying to clean up emissions etc but people will drive (and they will smoke and they will drink) whatever tax is imposed. If the 'green' taxes imposed were actually directed to research into improving the environment then perhaps they could be excused.
Water evaporates (and is still water), vegetation and animals do not. Assuming that is true, would it necessarily be such a bad thing? Do you have children/grandchildren, the genarations that will be faced with the problem of life without fossil fuels?
Yes it was warmer, had nothing to do with "roman glass". Regarding stopping the effects of global change How do we stop another ice age? If its going to happen its going to happen. Just like all the tornadoes and tsunamis that are happening now and blamed on man kind. What about the even bigger tsunamis and tornados that have been recorded over the centuries.
