If the car is reported to be stage "20",what exactly does that mean?
How far in production is it really?
Was told sometime in May delivery.

I just checked with my dealer on my car and car has a delivery date stated as 5/14/07. My understanding is that this is the expected completion date. I have heard though that Ferrari has been completing cars before the expected dates. So you never know maybe your car will arrive the second week of April, and mine also. That would be killer.

When a car is finished at the factory it is a 90. I think you are at the very beginning. I think they have all the parts in place to start on the car. I don't think any production starts below a 20.

    stage "20"

It means that, at least, you have passed the dreaded "red 10," at which point (as I understand it) you are locked in but not necessarily under construction.

Not to highjack a thread but....

This is an interesting look into how long it takes Ferrari to build a car from order to delivery and what the steps are to make it.

I imagine the people who are waiting for delivery could care less.

My build was for April. That can mean that Ferrari builds the car in early April or middle April. As of now my completion date is Mid May. We'll see if it moves up. I do know that the factory is building cars sooner than expected. All I know is I can't wait for the car to arrive.

I speced the car back in February, but the spec didn't go to Ferrai till the car was allocated, which was at the end of Feruary for an April build.

You guys all write as if the build process for all Ferraris is the same as say Lexus or Mercedes, as in a continuous flow production line. It aint so I am afraid as many models stop in mid production with either parts outages or mid model engineering upgrades. It used to be much less predictable but these realtively low volume modesl depend heavily on out sourced components from some small suppliers who are not usually well enough capitalized to supply.
