Thanks for spoiling. Guess I don't need to watch the TIVO now.

Sorry. Didn't think about taping qualifying. :(

I tried to change the thread title but can't figure out how to do it.

I think it is preferred that we do not put any kind of results in the thread heading, in fact we should use the word ***spoiler*** as a prefix.

Bristol is NASCAR's most popular track, and the action is not condusive to a JPM.

Hey Tony. It is pretty obvious I am not a big JPM fan. Even my Columbian friends find his arrogance a bit much.

Anyway, Bristol is not like the superspeedways, this is more like NASCAR used to be, side by side door banging racing where almost anything goes. Drafting/slipstreaming will not be a big factor. It will require the abiity to actually manhandle the car and also deal with the difficulty of passing in tight corners. I do not think he will do very well.

Take a look at an aerial of the speedway, basically a stadium with seating all the way. It is so popular, they are trying to add even more seats.

    Hi,

I'm not, in general, a big fan of taxicab racing. [Although, I have been to the night race at Bristol - Unfriggin' believable!]

Anyway, like many others, JPM's arrival piqued my interest, and furthermore this is the debut of the 'car of the future' - With 'adjustable front and rear aerodynamics' - To get to the point, I think JPM is going to scythe thru' the field :) He's smart, drives hard and can manhandle the car. His experience with "advanced" aero setup has got to help him with this COT thing IMHO.

But then again, I could be wrong.......

    My 02c, cheers,
    Ian

My boy Jeff Gordon got 3rd and takes 2nd behind Burton by 2 measely points in the standings. :)

JPM thirty something...falls 4 spots to 19 in the standings. :(

Gordon's first in the standings, Burton is 3 points behind. Good thing for Kyle that Burton is a gentleman racer :)

JPM doesn't do well, but he's kept the car in the top 35 standings, and is thus locked into the races for the rest of the year.

I guess you were correct :)

But, as has been noted, at least he's "in" for the rest of the year [Although I'm pretty sure he'd have received some kind of exemption/rule change/Nascar fancy-footstep had that *not* been the case :) ]

    Cheers,
    Ian

You are correct about the "in".

JPM should do OK on the 1 1/2 mile and larger speedways where slipstreaming is the key to a good showing. Fortunetely for him, NASCAR no longer frequents the small tracks like Bristol to any extent. If they did, he would not last the season. Manhandling a car in NASCAR is much different than manhandling an F1 car. It separates the boys from the men, and right now, JPM is just a boy.

I keep hearing how he is in over his head and not capable of running with the big boys in NASCAR.

And yet I read all the front runners in NASCAR saying that JPM will be a race winner and future champion. What do they know that some here don't??

He did manage to place 5th in the Nextel Cup race Atlanta last week - and apparently would have won if not for a last-minute caution.
