http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2007/03/23/alcohol-tobacco.html According to a new British study, alcohol and tobacco are worse for individuals and society than pot or ecstasy. Thoughts on this? Your views on substance use, legal or not? Is this just obfuscating the big picture of personal health?
I didnt need a study to tell me that Tobacco and alcohol are worse because they are socially acceptable thus abused far more regularly. I would think anyone who takes ecstacy on a daily basis would be way more F'ed up though... Pot I think is fairly harmless...its illegal because of the moral majority and DEA funding.
Moderation in all things. I partied hard for a number of years and I can't say I've ever once seen a stoned guy start a fight...now drunk guys on the other hand.
Would that it were true. What will happen is that, like the fellow who never smoked, drank, did dope, gambled, chased women or talked on his cell while driving at 80mph while eating a value meal and drinking a Starbucks coffee, you will be found cold and stiff in your room- from sheer boredom!!!!!! Sad, very, very sad.
Hmm. Looks like something I did in Halifax, NS back in 1986. Still hurts. QUOTE=tgood;136573514]Eh, I'd rather live a little... [/QUOTE]
Reminds me of Havasu.. Pretty sure I'm in there somewhere. I've got an aerial view of one day with 2x as many boats and ours was right in the middle. Image Unavailable, Please Login
But if they made X and Pot legal, where would all those DEA heads get their $$ from? I think the difference between when they legalized tobacco and alcohol and now is that there is a much more financial interest involved in illegal drugs, than if they made them legal. See, it's all about $$, and anyone who says different is lying.
Between alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana, pot is the "safest". However, DARE and other (justified) anti-drug programs don't discriminate, and they erroneously lump pot in with such drugs as PCP, Heroin, and Cocaine. Cigarettes and chew are terribly unhealthy and dangerous. Alcohol has a tendency to make bad people angry (not good) and stupid people dangerous drivers. Pot, however, tends to make people giggle and eat for a few hours. I'm not a pot pumper, but the urban myths about pot destroying lives is pretty inaccurate. The "typical" pot heads that you see marching on Washington represent perhaps 10% of the pot smoking community. Its use is actually far more widespread than many believe.
Pot is biggest cash crop in US - mo' money than corn and wheat combined. Think about that next time you're at the store. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decriminalization_of_cannabis_in_the_United_States#Studies Supreme Court http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzales_v._Raich Pot is Schedule I, along with Heroin, LSD and others. Cocaine is Scedule II, along with Morphine and other approved Medical drugs. Check out the other 3 Schedules. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controlled_Substances_Act#Schedule_I_drugs Ridiculous, isn't it?
Respected F chat people who have helped me many times with my queries...... These "sin" consumables, are bad, WE KNOW. But public enemy #1 is the food product that are DISGUISED as nutrition feedstuffs like...... White bread, "non fat" deserts which substitute higher sugar for the fat, cakes/donuts/fried potatoes, Trans fats/partially hydrogenated foodstuffs, etc. We feed our kids at school poison like: pre packed snackables, soda, chips, cookies, ice cream, popcorn coated with trans fats, etc etc. We are the fattest society in the first world. Yeah, the "sin" stuff is bad, but at least there is much less of a guise for these things.
Ecstasy was abused by a friend a long time ago and he ended up with Parkinson's and ruined his life. So can't see that being legalized any time soon. But worst thing I've seen pot do is make people lazy. If young people would vote something might legally for that. But percentage wise old people are organized and vote more so not much change.
While interesting, don't get too excited yet. Lots more work needs to be done before this is going to be completely rigorous. I think they had the right idea in asking experts what they thought, as direct testing in these instances is obviously not ethical, however, I would have like to see them give a different scale for rating. The scale for danger was: 0- No danger, 1- some, 2, moderate, and 3-extreme danger. There is a big jump between "moderate" and "extreme danger." Using a 5-point scale, and moving extreme to be number 4 and replacing 3 with something like "high danger" could seriously have changed the way the data looked. Even the researchers themselves realized the limits of the study, stating: The researchers do feel that this is a legitimate system, it just needs to be refined. I agree. Adam P.S. Just so you know, a gallon-sized bucket of lard can legally be labelled as trans-fat free. Trans-fats do have their uses in our body. Always be sure to read nutrition facts.
The DARE program is what put the word "high" in my vocabulary. You don't tell a bunch of 10 year old kids about things like that and expect them to not be curious. I love watching anti-marijuana commercials. They're so ****ing hysterical. During my "smoke days" all they made me do was reach for bong and reload.
the irony is you're hard pressed to find many people who feel pot is more harmful than booze or cigarettes..yet its still illegal. At least it keeps a few thousand DEA agents well fed.
As far as far as the possibility of medical use, a glass of red wine and pot are at the top of the list. I personally opt for the red wine.
