My brother and I are planning a trip in our 360's starting in Reno on June 6 and passing through Portland for the CART race on June 10, than back to Reno. The first night we will stay in Napa, ca and then head up the coast eventually to Portland. We will stay one night somewhere along the coast of Oregon and two nights in Portland. Does anyone have suggestions for places to stay that are exotice friendly. Also any tips on how to have fun in Portland would be appreciated. Thanks Randy
Salishan Resort at Gleneaden Beach is nice, and they have a fantastic golf course with plenty of rentals. Not much to do in Portland for tourists, tax free shopping?
Salishan is very nice. As for Portland, do you like staying in the city, or in a resort-type place? Personally, I prefer older hotels in the city (for example, Campton Place in SFO), so my choice is the Heathman, right in downtown Portland. Unfortunately, their garage is a nightmare, and I don't think I'd want to try to park a 360 in there. If you're going to the CART race, I'd strongly recommend staying downtown somewhere and taking light rail out to the track. Much, much easier than dealing with the parking situation. Another urban choice which might not be too bad is the Hotel De Luxe (formerly the Mallory). They are downtown, on the light rail line, and have a decent garage. I don't know what the rooms are like, but the lobby is nice. For a more suburban resort-type experience, consider... hmm, I can't think of any place which fills that bill, beyond the usual Hiltons etc.
Not much to do in Portland??? Are you kidding??? There's tons to do!!! And during the CART weekend I am sure we will get a good size group of Exotics out to the track... And probably have a drive or two... Send me a PM and I can reccomend a few things to enjoy while in the area...
Actually, do we get coral parking at the CART race??? I also like the Benson Hotel downtown and they actually might let you leave the car out front all night (if you treat the doorman right) and they can keep an eye on it for you... Randy, Your 360 has a twin here in Portland...
The Benson is certainly very nice. I imagine that parking on the street isn't what he meant by "exotic friendly" although that would work well enough for me! If you tipped the doorman at the Heathman $20, he'd probably let you park out front there all night also. Do you have to register for the Ferrari corral at the CART race? Last year, IIRC, there were about 3 cars in there (but maybe I'm confusing it with the vintage races?) I know last year parking was a pain at CART.
Thanks for the replys, the downtown area sounds interesting with the light rail to the track. If there is going to be a group going on Sunday with parking in a corral we would love to be involved in that. I will do a little searching on the internet tonite about your suggestions. I don't remermber any corral for us, there were the 3 cars by the Red Bull tent. An enzo, F40, ??? Oh heck, I can't remember. (too much time in the Red Bull tent I think! ... thanks Steveo, you rock buddy!) Though it would be really cool if we could get some more cars in there! Cheers! DT

It looks like we will be staying Fri. nite somewhere in southern Oregon, probably near Brookings. Has anyone heard of the Rogue River Lodge outside of Brookings? From there we will make the drive to Portland Sat. morning. Looking at the Westin in Portland for Sat and Sun nites...any comments. What about parking? Staying at the Westin to use up Starwood points. Thanks for any info Randy

Yes, a very nice place. On the way there you can blast throuh the Redwoods but watch out for the cops using radar near Eureka, CA. Once you start North on the Oregon Coast, there are some very photogenic light houses and you may want to have a camera handy; Umpqua Lighthouse, Heceta Head, and Yaquina would make a nice backdrop for photos of your cars. http://www.nwcoast.com/lighthouses/oregon.asp http://www.cateringbydeangelos.com/oregontourism.htm
I hope you realize that travels on Hwy 101 up the coast can be very slow if you get stuck behind a herd of logging trucks or Winebaggos, but it is very scenic. Do stop at Heceta Head lighthouse, very nice spot to take a break. We stopped in there a couple of years ago and found about 40 hotrods from the bay area having a break there. Great stuff. The Inn at Otter Rock is quite nice, a few miles north of Newport with valet parking. The Benson and the Heathman are top class in Portland. Ed in Salem
