I have figures of 74 RHD365 and 101 RHDcarb 512 With respect, I think I have a larger sample size than most.. I've test driven at least 7 different 365's, and maybe 12 512's (several of those on race tracks)... and about 10 BBis. A carb 512 is my choice.. for pure speed, drivability (torque), aero advantage and dry sump.
ok... so firstly.. is your car basically std.. exhaust? Pistons? Head work?.. oh yeah, and tyres size (gearing) secondly... a 512 with std exhaust is appreciably down on top end grunt compared to a sports equipped 512 (but has great torque still)... which spec 512 did you drive? Just trying to qualify your opinion based on your test sample... If you're in town (or I bring mine to NSW), i'd happily let you drive my car for comparison too... edit.. thinking....("I might actually bring mine to Bathurst in a couple of weeks... I'm racing there for the Easter festival and the whole family are coming. and then on to Syd for a few days... probably too hard but if I can grab a truck spot it might be worth a go...)
anyway, back to ferrari spotting.... out riding my latest toy today and ran into GP driving his latest toy, a 365 GT4 BB chased him down and went for a lap in it with goobs, awesome sound that car makes, much tougher than the TR. wicked vehicle, with the engine lid back you can really see it's little more than two seats bolted to a huge engine. GP's not entirely happy with it, he picked out about 20 things that just weren't right on it, the PO obviously did a bit of customisation... lots and lots of just little silly things like putting trim *over* the ashtrays and using metal where should be plastic, reckons needs another $10k thrown at it to bring it back to original. here's the pics (phone), goobs should post (or send me) the vids later on. look how fat those tyres are!!! various links: http://gallery.aussieexotics.com/gallery/2443570#138189941-L-LB http://gallery.aussieexotics.com/gallery/2443570#138189942-L-LB http://gallery.aussieexotics.com/gallery/2443570#138189946-L-LB http://gallery.aussieexotics.com/gallery/2443570#138189947-L-LB http://gallery.aussieexotics.com/gallery/2443570#138189948-L-LB http://gallery.aussieexotics.com/gallery/2443570#138189949-L-LB Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've not driven any other 365's but know mine has had performance enhancements with pistons, rods, heads etc, so it is REALLY hot. But these cars are so old now, what's the chance there are any really standard spec cars out there? Anyway it's all academic cuz I'm never going to race it and I just like revving the 512 guys up, so don't sweat it
You won't rev a REAL 512 guy up.. 'cos we all KNOW the truth But yeah.. yours will be greatly improved with the work it's had done.... There are LOTS of std Boxers out there... unfortunately, many are left to sit around for ages.. my own included.
haha, look one post up. anyway, back to ferrari spotting... just around the corner from goob's place i ran into this... http://gallery.aussieexotics.com/gallery/2443570#138189952-L-LB http://gallery.aussieexotics.com/gallery/2443570#138189950-L-LB http://gallery.aussieexotics.com/gallery/2443570#138189954-L-LB Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
wheres the speedlines yo? real CH or has the owner just got a bit carried away with the ferrari parts bin?
sarcasm and flattery... all rolled into one post!! I like it! I'm sure there are many people who have a larger sample test size... but I'm also priveledged to have driven cars that come in driving a certain way (that others have formed an opinion on and spread this as fact).. and I get to transform that car into how it SHOULD be... so in that respect, I think I'm blessed!
i don't know enough about them to say yay or nay sorry. it was a 6speed though, i was already late for picking up the gf so i couldn't stick around and get a good look at it.
cool...stock rims would be a bit of a weird addition to a CH unless theres some explanation im sure someone will jump on quoting serial #'s or something soon enough
ha.. as much as I'd like to, I really hadn't ought to tell you the irony in that statement just yet.. suffice to say, you couldn't be more wrong!
I've never tried, but I think std wheels won't fit over challenge brakes... and you can't quite see in that pic...
ok.. were they gold anodised racy looking callipers with brembo written in red... or painted beefed up road car ones...?
spotted testing at Calder on wednesday this week... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136575290&postcount=33
