Well it seems my car will not turn over if the A/C is switched on. Once the A/C is turned off it spins up like a top.
This happen to anyone else or anyone have some insight into this. Once you kind of know about it it's not that big a deal, although weird.

Does the AC work ok once the engine is started?

    Maybe the compressor has seized?

More likely a power board dilemma though!

    Agree this is most likely.

Amazingly for an 80's Italian car, the A/C works absolutely terrific. I think the secret there was to just plug up all of the ducting leaks in the systemand increade the front vent size.

Does "my car will not turn over" mean that 1. the solenoid doesn't fire completely, or that 2. the solenoid does fire, but the starter motor does not then spin?

If the former -- it's a quasi-normal thing. If you measure the voltage actually reaching the 50 terminal at the starter solenoid, it will be significantly lower with the AC turned "on" (because of the huge AC current draw -- especially when the blower motor is not yet up to speed).

Most times starter solenoids can live with this lower voltage, but we sometimes get F starter solenoids here that won't even fire when the AC is "off" ;) -- you must be somewhere "in-between".

But stop doing that -- the OM specifically instructs to not start with the AC "on" (for the very reason of not over-stressing the battery/electrical).

Ferrari should have made an automatic A/C to OFF feature when you stop the motor, or at least put a slight delay circuit when starting the car before the A/C would kick on.

Yeah, but then Mondial and TR would have threads just like 348 with:

My AC display shows "E8" -- what should I do? ;)

"Doctor, it hurts when I do this."
    "Then stop doing it"

    :)

    Well, that was easy....
    :)
