Help! Air Conditioner Compressor broken - '98 355 Spider

    F-Chatters,

    After four months of blissful driving in my 1998 355 Spider, I go to get the oil changed and get the car generally checked out and found out that the Air Conditioner Compressor is broken and I need a new A/C.

    Any thoughts? Advice? Approximate price to replace the system? Aftermarket solutions?

    I will likely ask the dealership where I bought the used car (in December) to see if they can get me the parts at cost or something.

    Appreciate any and all comments.

    I live in Georgia and Florida so I will need A/C for the summer and always like to fix something correctly when inevitable repairs are needed... but am open to any advice that will remedy the problem!!!

    When I bought my 98 355 gtb in sept. the mechanic who did the PPI on the car said the ac compressor was leaking. Instead of replacing it, he said he could rebuild. It would be cheaper and the replacement parts are better then the ones the factory uses. It cost me 1200.00 with the labor. I suggest you find a good mechanic and look into it. I would send you to the guy I used but he's in North Carolina. He was really good and my ac is ice cold. Good luck.

    IMO I wouldn't waste my time or money repairing air-con compressors. They are IMO a use once throw away item ;)
