NHRA Funny Car drag racer Eric Medlen died today, after the practice crash in Florida a few days ago. He drove for John Force Racing, and was a pretty good driver. It will be curious to see how they handle this on Force's TV show...
Very sad, here is the story with bio, family seems to have been close with the Forces... http://www.backstretchmotorsports.com/bm/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=10505&Itemid=32
I saw an episode that he was in in which he won his first race. He had spent the weekend with the Forces and did seem very close. It makes you wonder if John will still let Ashley get into a Funny Car or will she even want to anymore. Either way a sad loss. RIP Eric.....
Luis, it was shocking reading about it today, didn't even know it happened. RIP Eric, you will be missed.
I am shocked to hear this news. I met Eric at last year's race at Englishtown. He signed my Frank Hawley Drag Racing school hat and we chatted for a couple of minutes about our respective experience's at the Hawley school. He was a complete gentleman and a really approachable guy. This is tragic news. His dad was his crew chief on Force's team and I believe Medlen worked for John as a mechanic before John put him in the seat. RIP, Eric.
Watched the show (2 episodes) last night and at the end of the second one there was a picture of Medlen and caption stating that this season's shows will be dedicated to him. Irony...In the first episode there was a nasty wreck of another driver that caused Force to reflect on the dangers of his life and that his daughters would be facing the same. Fortunately the driver in that wreck walked away.
