The problem I just found out with realty is everyone is doing it...Within the past month I found out that 3 of my cousins wives that I thought were full time moms(all have at least 2 kids under 5)are part time realtors. A few of the pit bosses at the casino were talking about their 6% on some deals they are putting together, and 2 of my receptionist at work are just finishing real estate school....Market is flooded so I think the years of an easy $200k are gone for the newbies.
The plane is launched and automatically climbs. It reduces pilot error on takeoffs. Also, there is an Automatic Carrier Landing System (already installed on at least the Greyhounds).
ah I see. Thanks. Is anybody here a corporate/airline pilot? or just recreational pilot?
I agree with: skycap - Coming back from somewhere, I finally used one of these. The guy made it sound as though the tip was mandatory; what an a s s . realtor - Yeah, I know it's hard to sell a house, but at least 1000 people aren't going to lose their jobs if a mistake is made. Disagree w/ortho: I know the assistants do a lot of the work; author didn't really mention anything about who does the diagnosis.
This will p**s all you pilots off, but why aren't taxi drivers paid equally? We put our lives at risk everytime we step into a taxi cab, just like we do when we fly. Is one life less valuable than hundreds? I live in a Delta community. Even after pay cuts pilots do very well, and, because they work only a handful of days per month, many have businesses or other careers on the side. Rather than feel sorry for the pilots, we should feel badly for the airline mechanics and technicians whose families have suffered due to pay and benefit cuts. They have as much or more to do with keeping the plane in the air, but they get none of the money, benefits or glory.
I think the "glamour" of a Hedge Fund career can be overstated. The money is good if you are great, but I don't think it's overpaid. After all, people know what they are paying when they put in the money into that fund.
Especially Osama, Mullah Omar, Iran, Syria, North Korea, and those other nations that want to turn the world into there personal dictatorship. It's quite funny that all Blair can do is talk about the sailors and marines that didn't even fight back. The Falklands were won on a song and a prayer, you can't duplicate that anymore. Your country will soon be part of Eurabia. Enjoy it, dhimmi.
the film industry is filled with overpaid positions but I think its hard for an article like that to track. Avg Makeup artist $125k+ yr Avg Special fx artist $150k+ yr Avg Teamster driver $ 150k+ yr just an example and none of those positions require much in the way of schooling. I was 17 making $80k yr on film sets back in the late 80s. Granted at the time it rocked..it wasnt until I had to start paying OTHERS that much that I realized how over compensated many positions are.
Airline pilots deserve the money they get paid. Think of it this way. Let's say pilots did not make good money. They then worry about the bills getting paid. Soon the second notice is sent to them on overdue debts. They go into depression. They say "F it", and point the nose down. I want my pilots debt free and happy.
I WANT the guy (or woman) flying the plane I'm on to be the best and highest paid...no complaints there. Regarding realtors...I've seen them work very hard for months marketing a property and not make a dime, and then turn around and sell another one for full price, first day on the market. It's not an easy business, notwithstanding rumors to the contrary...residential real estate is a 24-hour job and extremely competitive. When our new house is finished and we put our current house on the market, it will be with a realtor.
Yeah Scott, I agree with what you have stated. Good brokers work hard and deserve what they make. Frankly though, the field is totally overrun with idiots. Furthermore, why should Realtors have a protected fee? Why shouldn't they be governed by supply and demand like true professionals? Jon
My good friend Dan M is a NYC to London pilot. I believe he pilots a 777. He is the smartest most level headed person I have ever met. I'm sure he's 200-250K, but I'm quite sure that there is no situation that could rattle him. Pilots are worth every penny if you ask me.
At all the major hotels in Vegas 6 to 10 weddings aday and they command 1500 to 3500 for pics. Oh and the photgraphers are crapy using out dated equipment. I know just went threw it. Good thing My Brother in law was there with an 11,000 dollar camera and better skills. JJ

Sounds like (another) racket run by the casinos/wedding chapels. Good wedding photographer command $4-10K for the event. I'd wonder why someone would pay $10K for a photographer for a single day, but then again there are people who think spending anything more than $25K on a car is nuts and Ferrari's are for 40-somethings with a midlife crisis, a penchant for 20-something mistresses and new hair plugs. In the defense of finer, professional photographers, it's not just a one day gig. It's easily days of prep (site visits, meetings with the family, bridal portraits, couples studio sessions etc) and a 12-14 hour day on the wedding day. The hard(er) part is the several days and weeks ahead spent editing images to the families requirements. Keep in mind good equipment is cheap and spending $15K on necessary equipment is easy to do. I've got a small setup and I've eclipsed that. Good assistants and post-processors cost money, as does liability insurance, and all the things that go with a typical business. These days with the proliferation of digital cameras, *everyone* is (or rather thinks they are) a photographer and what was a profitable income with mostly middle income families is now clients demanding all the digital files in full resolution on CD plus bridal portraits, plus shooting the wedding, etc......for $500. This is because Bob down the street has a new <insert new DSLR here> and will do it for that much. Unfortunately, reasoning with people of that mind set is impossible until they see the result of Bob's 'talent'. I've turned down more weddings than I've shot due to this mentality!
Jon...agree, there are idiots, but in my expr they don't last long...the middle-highend to ultra-highend market here in Dallas is just too competitive to support them. As far as the protected fee, it is a little-mafia kind of thing...how come they get it and we don't, I'd like to know? Or maybe I do know: Real estate here is covered by state practice laws...you can't sell for compensation without a RE license. I do know that realtors here can negotiate the standard 6% down and many do, especially on big $$$ homes. On the other hand, architecture in Texas is largely a "title" law if you work in SF residential, light multifamily, or light commercial...there are plenty of ways to practice without a license in these areas, and the licensed profession has to face heavy fee competition from design-build outfits and unlicensed non-professionals. I guess I fit the latter category now, as I gave up my licenses when I retired, but I've kept the passion and proper elitist attitude . Some things never change, I've found. How architecture as a profession evolved into this unfortunate position, I don't know, but IMO the title law situation is the only realistic reason that we're underpaid as compared to MD's, etc. I'd like to hear more of your thoughts.
disagree on pilot It may not be hard to pilot a 747, but it will take you about 15 years to get there.
Change #1 to CEO of any company and #2 to prof athelete and I agree. I dunno, but I can't possibly fathom that a CEO is as directly correlated to the succeess of a company with respect to what he's paid. Esp given it appears most CEOs make more money getting fired than they do doing well. Prof atheletes at least get paid more the "better" they are.
