Took the car to baseball practice today. After a nice 2 hour practice, time to go. Put key in ignition and turned---SNAP!!!!!!!! Thankfully the key pulled out of the ignition and didn't get stuck in there......So much for STEEL keys. Honestly it felt like a piece of rubber when I turned the key, no effort at all and it broke right off...Is this normal???

Daniel when you get back from Italy I will be placing a blank key order...

Wow that's crazy! I never heard that all Ferrari keys were steel, I thought it was just those Enzo / CS things. But still even brass shouldn't bend that easy...now c'mon tell us the whole story, key wasn't in the whole way and you tried to force it?? :) :) :)

That is what I have been told. I had purchased a spare set for my 328 a couple years ago. The key cut guy said he went thru almost an entire grind wheel to cut the key because of how hard they are...Anyone have any idea where to get 355 key blanks???????

Any good quality key shop should be able to make you a key.

Most of the blanks are for Alfa, Fiat, etc., and are made by Ilco.

I have had two made for my 360, and they were $3.50 each.

    Forget the steel blanks!

I believe the 'tooth' pattern on some keys are 'keyed' this way. It is just the luck of the draw that alot of the material is cut away so close to the thumbgrip/handle. :(

When I go buy deadbolts and home key stuff I try to select the 'sets' that don't have as much material cut away so close to the thumbgrip, specifically for the "breakage" reason. :)

    His price is now $495.00!

Maybe he's trying to make up for all the required rebates!

Thanks, but I can wait. I have an extra and don't plan on driving the car for a few days.

Sure enough, took a look at my key and it was slightly twisted. So went today and had two copies made before my only key snapped.

I had a duplicate made because I needed a key light (to unlock the car in complete darkness).

As an unplanned bonus - I now have a wannabe Enzo key.
