Porsche GT1...the Veyron killer

Wow, that would be a big move by Porsche in the super-car wars, for sure. I like the looks.

But who knows what will be out by 2009.

Won't happen IMHO......the CGT was a sales failure relative to projections and something like this will just further dilute CGT values.

PAG was smart is reducing production of the CGT and I doubt they'd give the car a further kick in the balls by bringing out something like this.

 

if they build it as a homologation car to run in fia sanctioned events, it will sell out...but at what cost? and will it be a subsidised car or will it be profitable?

looks hot though...i hope they only make 400!!

 

I think a limited 200-300 would be a nice choice for Porsche.

I assume if the car does come out it would be a limited homologation run like the 1998 GT1 or CLK GTR i.e. about 20-30 cars.

A Veyron is not a Veyron purely because of its speed: it is a Veyron because of its speed AND its luxury/creature comforts.

Take a freaking go cart and compare it to a car like the Veyron, that's the smart thing to do. I'm sick of how many people compare cars like the SSC Aero and others to a Veyron.

THEY ARE IN DIFFERENT CLASSES. NOTHING IS EVEN CLOSE TO BEING IN VEYRON'S CLASS, and I'm not even referring to the technical achievements, which none of these other cars will even touch. All these cars are racecars for the streets. The Veyron is more.

 

Whats the big deal? Looks like a kitted up CGT. Terrible IMO. Prob just a short run for a small race series, make a handful of cars and thats it. Not groundbreaking at all.

 

Could see it in a race, but dont think porsche will ever produce one for street use.

 

I can't understand why they would call this the GT1, as it's been only 10 years since they produced a model WITH THE SAME NAME.

Also look pretty similar as well. And I've always thought that the GT1 was a far better looking car than the CGT ever was.

 

+1, I can't even tell you how annoying it is when a guy with a Camaro mods it to beat a Ferrari in a drag race then all of a sudden they think its better in every way.

 

If they build this GT1 it will be AWESOME

I saw in another thread also that they are building a 997 GT2...

looks like a p-shop dream of a CGT. Throw a couple of rumors in a pot with a bit of truth to spice things up and this is what you get.

 

I wish. I just have tremendous respect for what the Veyron is, and it isn't just horsepower and top speed. It's a very special car with no equal, so I hate seeing it compared to other cars based solely on horsepower, top speed, acceleration, etc.

Look dude the Veyron is the ultimate luxry car but it will never be like what the Mclaren F1 is, thats a car that was and still is in its own class by itself. What has it ran in the N-ring? has it even entered racing? the only thing its been proven in its topspeed which requres 4 turbos where as the Mclaren F1 didn't have any turbos not even a Supercharger it was all raw muscle. They had it going on until VW dumped in 4 turbos and spiked the cost at over a million dollars.

The SSC Aero is as i said before its a kitcar with an identity crisis so regardless it will never be as well built as a Veyron but needless to say I can't buy an Ultima GTR, drop in an LS1 Twin Turbo and leave the Veyron for dead at any track.

You act as if the Veyron can't be beatin and its god's gift to the road. To me the Veyron is very overpriced and overated. The damn thing is also unattractive id much rather have a Murcielago over the looks of a Veyron.

And seriously the SSC is just a kitcar even if it is called a Supercar so why bother with it anyways?. I can buy an Ultima GTR and it would beat any production car including the Mclaren F1 and Veyron at almost any track but nobody really gives a rats @$$ about it.

and do you have any idea how long it took the McLaren to be produced? I'll give you a clue, it wasnt overnight, It was around 10 or so years

 

The veyron has bee run in the N-ring, do your homework first before commenting plz.
