I can't get insurance in michigan because i have a roll cage in my car. Is there anybody out there who has a car with a roll cage and was able to get insurance. My only other option is to remove the cage and never get to go to the race track.

That is a rule straight across the board, even hear in Canada. You cannot even saftey a street car with a roll cage in it. Your lucky you have not been inpounded.

You put the roll cage in for safety yet they won't insure you. That seems a little contradictory.

Roll cages are dangerous in street cars because of the increased chances of head injuries. A roll cage + no helmet is bad news.

Not true. The company I was with stopped covering my state. They still cover cars with cages in other states.

True, but a rollcage that stays behind the front seats, and using a harness rather than a seatbelt, greatly reduces the chances of this happening at highway speeds and slower...

My question what kind of insurance company cares or even looks at a car. I had a full cage in my 911 and had state Farm insurance for years. They even took pics of the car when I first got it. Try Hagerty collector car insurance half the cars they insure have a cage. Oh but do yourself a favor and stop making the cage an issue. send pics of the car from a distance try not to focus your camera on the cage. This is if they require pics. JJ

As a factory option on some cars, even! Not fair, you guys get all the cool stuff.

I vote for finding a new insurance company and forgetting to tell them you have one.

Curious of this as well. I have several friends with cars that have cages, many of which had them when they purchased and it wasn't an issue, even when they brought it to the insurance HQ to have a picture taken. When I called to get my miata insured they just asked if I anything non stock done to it. I said no, that was the end of it.

Anybody have any idea of what states it is illegal/legal in? I guess you could always remove it...get insurance...then reinstall it...but that is dishonest.

Thats right mate. Here in Australia, you CAN have a legal roll cage, as long as an Engineer approves of it, which you then get a Mod plate fitted near the build plate in the car, you can have them. BUT..............EVERY roll cage must have minium 40mm thick foam padding around the head area throughout the entire car. My friend has recently done this in his Nissan Skyline. Black roll cage, black foam. Not too bad and not a hindrance to him when driving. :):) Plus it will save his life in the event of a roll over ect.....:):)

There's an R32 Nissan GTR for sale in melb that has a roll cage in it and like pap said, it's covered in black foam.. Shoddy car at only 17k, but the cage is a nice addition...

....sounds to me like you shot your mouth off, and gave WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION to the insurance company. I have never had any of my cars personally inspected by anyone associated with Insurance companies, so unless you TOLD them about the roll bar, they would not have known it was there. A roll bar, in their mind, blatantly advertises your intention to track the car, and participate in high-speed driving where a roll bar is a necessary safety device in the event you roll the car. NO run-of-the-mill insurance company in their right mind would insure you with this information - especially if you plan on 'streeting' the car. A roll bar in a street car screams "I'm going to drive in the street as if I'm on a racetrack, so I need a roll bar to prevent being killed when I eventually crash the car - oh, and I want someone else to pay for the aftermath".

    Good plan you got there.....

With my stated value policies the agent inspects the car with pics to certify condition...

I have also read that roll bars are not allowed in street legal vehicles but forget where........must have been a thread on Challenge car conversion back to street use......

The companies want 4 photos including 1 of the interior. No way around it, the interrior is full of tube. They write the papers and then cancel a week later. Happened with Hagerty, classic, grundy.

Heacock carried me for 5 years but are pulling out of Michigan.

Hagerty will cover me if i cut out the cage and remove the No2 bottle

what the &**() does this have to do on the topic at hand? anywhoo, the No2 is legal in the car as long as the line to the engine is disconnected, so *$)# them for saying otherwise, as for the cage, just take a picture of another car's interior
