1976 - 308 What's it worth?

As far as I am aware, all the glass cars have dry sump motors. I dont see a sump reservoir on this car, therefore its most likely steel. The steel cars are so smooth and well shaped, they fool a lot of people into thinking they are glass. And with a lot of lead, body filler and paint, it can be hard for a magnet to stick. My guess is its an early steel US car. Still a good car, but if its not really glass you should knock about $10K off your guestimates. I am not totally sure, but I believe all of the glass cars are euro spec cars and require DOT and EPA import paper work. This car needs another look over by someone who can tell a glass car from a steel one, and a US car from a euro.

 

I should get my eyes checked. I just noticed it has the correct "glass" rear valance (the license plate section is recessed on the steel cars) and looks to have the quick release rear deck lid hinges, also found only on the glass cars. So okay, where is the sump reservoir?

 

Only the Euro glass 308's had a dry sump. USA cars never had it.

Well, I'm back from vacation and spotted this thread. Y'all know what an "expert (exspurt)" is Bubba? An "ex" is a has-been and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure.

The U.S. Versions or more properly, as Bubba mentioned, North American Version Fiberglass GTBs, according to Gerald Roush in the FML, were made in three groups in mid-1976: 20 in May (19397-19435), 40 in June (19505-19583), and a final batch of 40 in July (19725-19805). Each batch of cars had consecutive (odd) serial numbers.

The shift knob's got to go too. The car still has its thermonuclear muffler which should be stockpiled. It's time for an ANSA Sport.

I think it's a beautiful car, especially in that color.

 

As I posted earlier, two things are dead giveaways. The rear license plate panel is recessed in that area on the steel cars, yours has no recess. In addition the glass cars have quick disconnect latches on the rear deck lid. From the pics yours appears to have those latches. There should also be a seam line at the top of the windshield post, but many have been covered up through body work over the ensuing 30 years. But a strong magnet would stick to everything except the front trunk lid on a steel car, and wouldnt stick to anything on a glass car.

You were aware there is/was another glass 308 in town thats available? Red with tan, and a euro car (IIRC ) with P6 cams. PM me if interested, its in the same price range.

Congrats on the deal, you have to pay the market $$$ on these, but I don't think you'll be disappointed!
