QUESTION: Since this was on a race track, does that mean Insurance will not cover damages? If that is the case, will Eddie foot the bill?
I think that the extra publicity that this incident created for the movie will be MORE than adequate to buy several Enzos and/or Veyrons when it comes to box office gross
In my opinion, it looks like he's genuinely embarassed and somewhat mortified. He's an actor paid to make a movie and promote it. He crashes an Enzo with tons of cameras around. What do you think that he's going to do? Cry? He's a professional. He's still on the job. He's putting on his game face. You can still tell he's embarrassed. Yeah, it sucks, but don't crucify the guy. Besides, I can guarantee you that if someone said to you, "take my Enzo and do this autocross course and I want you to try and set some ast times," that you would all know exactly how to drive the car with no mistakes? Bull****, plain and simple. The true idiot is whoever set up that course and put the barrier right there.
I'm glad Eddie's okay... Wishing he would die simply because he crashed a car is in very poor taste... Now I need to ask: does anyone know the serial number...? Watching that video was very painful... I don't even know what to say... As someone mentioned on another forum, who the hell puts a concrete barrier so close to an autocross session...? Or who the hell sets up an autocross session so close to a concrete barrier...? If this is true - and I can't even allow myself to believe it - then that's the poorest excuse for publicity I've ever heard of. That makes me sick just to think about that. That's disgusting... I mean, crashing the salvage-titled CGT makes me queasy - to think that someone - anyone! - would crash an Enzo, on purpose, just for publicity is heart-wrenching.
are we blaming the course??? i have the sense to be cautious of any unfamiliar machines...you can bet yer arse i wouldn't be pushing a 650bhp supercar like that without the proper instruction, or without 10 football fields of clear open space.
I can't believe that... Very poor driving skills, he went way to fast into that corner. THe Ferrari Enzo's crash saftey features are really amazing though. I want to see a different angle of this crash. There were many cameras filming. As said, maybe even delay the movie again (hopefully not) to gain more publicity.
well, i suppose the barriers were so close due to the need for up close media...gotta get clear pics and vids ya know!
First of all it's good to know he was not hurt. As painful as it is to watch it's still a car - albeit a very expensive, sought after, collectible, fantastic one at that - but still a car (that can hopefully be replaced). What I don't understand is the concept of driving someone else's car anywhere near the limit. I am very uncomfortable driving something that doesn't belong to me let alone driving it in a manner which could potentially end up like this episode. We may not know the details of why he was driving beyond his apparent abilities (ie. whether he was asked to "do some spirited driving" or simply decided to do so on his own) but either way I think it was irresponsible of him to do so. I would probably be driving it around like a granny just to be sure nothing happened to it.
+1 I don't think it was planned, just set up really bad. Usually actors do not do the risky stunts. They have professional stunt drivers to do that. No movie is worth wasting such a car on.
As long as the tub wasnt damaged that car can be repaired. People are citing his poor driving as the reason for the crash, but who in their right mind would put a barrier less than ten feet from a corner. If the barrier couldnt be moved couldnt the course have been altered to avoid it? Poor course set up poor driving. His cockiness is just his way of dealing with the wreck without ****ting his pants in fear of the owner.
This was just on the news, and the wrecked car was already set up on a red carpet by a big movie poster advertising the film......I don't want to say that it was on purpose but it looks like they sure are going to take full advantage of it. Even thought it pisses me off that the owner let Eddie drive the car and not practically KNOW it would be wrecked with no experience under his belt I just wish they had the owners face on vid when it happened so we'd know just how much he cared.
V sad to see another Enzo taking a beating, but agree at least Eddie's ok and the car looks repairable. I still find it strange that at that speed the enzo was understeering to that degree though
+2, He was not at all in a good mood after that. Still though, some of the camera men in were joking about it. This PROMOTION gets 2 THUMPS DOWN.
I think that many are taking this a lot more personally than the actual owner did. The owner was the director/creator of the movie. I'm sure that he is much more passionate about his film than he is about a car (which can be readily and easily replaced). If this film does well (which judging by threads like this on the net it will) it was a sacrifice well worth making.
Eddie Griffin OK after wrecking Ferrari Enzo at SoCal race track The Associated Press Article Launched: 03/26/2007 08:45:15 PM PDT IRWINDALE, Calif.- Eddie Griffin crashed a rare Ferrari Enzo worth $1.5 million into a concrete barrier Monday, destroying the car but escaping without injuries. The comedian was practicing for a charity race to promote his upcoming film, "Redline," when he drove too fast around a curve at the Irwindale Speedway and smashed into a divide. Video footage showed the red sports car screeching before it ricocheted off the barrier with heavy damage to its front. "Undercover Brother's good at karate and all the rest of that, but the brother can't drive," Griffin, referring to one his past films, told reporters after the accident. The film's publicist, Wendy Zocks, said Griffin was "doing OK." "He walked away completely unscratched, but probably a little shaken," Zocks said. The Enzo, valued at around $1.5 million, was owned by the film's executive producer, Daniel Sadek, whose exotic car collection was featured in the movie. Sadek said the car was beyond repair and that he had "mixed feelings" about the wreck. "I'm glad Eddie came out of the crash OK, but my dream car got destroyed," Sadek said. "I went to my trailer for about 15 minutes and I thought, there's people dying everyday. A lot of worse things are happening in the world." Only 400 Ferrari Enzos were ever produced, all between 2002 and 2004. The car was the subject of a high-profile court trial last year after a Swedish businessman totaled a red Enzo in a 162 mph crash on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. Griffin's credits include the comedies "Undercover Brother," "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo" and its sequel, "Date Movie" and "Norbit."
"I went to my trailer for about 15 minutes and I thought, there's people dying everyday. A lot of worse things are happening in the world." He's right about that! Good way to put everything in perspective.
