Looks like a good idea. Though the relationship between the cam drive pulleys and the 'locked' cams should be fixed too. Is there already a tool to lock down the crank pulleys too??

 

I have changed belts on two 355s now. Heres my cam lock Dont care what you all say i was told about this trick by a head ferrari tec mate of mine
There is not that much tension between the pulleys by the way which was a supprise on my first belt change
MB: Oh and Goth one does not use or need a crank pully lock, that crank aint going no were. Especialy if one does one belt at a time.

Based on discussion from another thread the cam lock tool is the least accurate way to do a belt change. the best is to use a degree wheel and set the timing based on TDC and then do the belts. the cam locking tool only keeps the cams at a previous position that may or may not be optimal for the timing of the engine.

I saw the tool on Ebay and immediately thought - No way I would use it - way too risky. In order to stop the pulleys from turning you need to apply some serious loads with the tool especially since the face to the pulleys are smooth - it uses friction not a mechanical lock. That puts serious bending loads on two VERY expensive parts which are hollow. Cams can take pretty high torsional loads but not bending.

This looks like a tool that was designed by someone with little engineer knowledge - may look like a simple solution but way off on the design - someone is eventually going to suffer the consequences.

 

I kinda like CHAAS' rig......adjustable and multifunctional, so much so that you can just about disassemble the whole car with it.....not recommended for changing the sparkplugs though........hmmm wonder if you can get a tan leather pouch for it....lol

 

Clearly you have not done any 355 cambelts then have you Very little force needed..

Now that' funny....!!!! CHAA....will NOT be changing out my sparkplugs..
Maybe we need to take up a collection and get him some tools for his birthday......lol

Educate me please - I have only done my 308 twin turbo and 348s, both require in the order of 70+ ftlb to tighten the pulley and probably twice as much to remove the bolt in the first place...
