Stupid people.....some lady jumped onto the 401 this morning, closing the major highway for 4 hours. Supposedly she jumped from the bridge and landed on the highway, then she got up and ran into oncoming traffic. Of course they closed the highway and all the onramps to trafic, so the emergency vehicles to enter the area.

Funny thing was, that this morning as I was having breakfast, the traffic camera's on CityPulse were showing the woman getting out of her car and jumping over the bridge, then the camera switched angles and showed her walking on the 401. Obviously, the producers quickly shut down the cameras and blacked out the channel for a few seconds!

People need to smarten up and realize that if they want to perform a selfish and stupid act, that they are jeopardizing and interrupting the lives of thousands of other people who have jobs, family and other problems to worry about...

I think so, however, she was hit by oncoming traffic, so technically she didn't kill herself..?

Forgive my American ignorance (I mean no disrespect). But, when was the first Canadian civil war? Was there one?

Yes, there was a civil war in 1991. 25,000 Canadians perished.

With due respect to "ClassicFerrari" and to you, sir. May I, as an ignorant American (a fact), ask what you mean? Do you refer to the 1980 Reference To Written law, or to the 1982 Charter of Rights and Freedoms. To what does this refer? I am horrified that 25,000 North Americans (Canadians) could die without our hearing of it. I am appalled. What can this mean? Will you enlighten me?

Don't worry, you are not an ignorant American, sounds like you know quite a bit of Canadian history....

The civil war was headed by General Tim Horton, he was a fierce officer who led many Canadian soldiers in the front lines, fighting against the Eskimo's who wanted to invade Southern Ontario. The Eskimo's sailed down the Humber river into Toronto, only to find the soldiers waiting for them around the Jane and Finch area. This is where the battle was fought, and still today, new battles are being fought in the neighbourhood.

Exactly. Sorry, but I don't know why I am getting my head bitten off. Garnat, I was just trying to get involved in this coversation in a polite manner thats all. Sorry you misunderstood.

Back to our topic. Aside from the great "rebellion of Jane & Finch" which still smolders from time to time. Some old Tim Horton supporters can still be found in Old Fort York located downtown Toronto. In 1968 when there was nothing but farm land & cows in the Bathurst & Lakeshore area this fort was built by Tim Hortons to battle yet another important battle in Canadian history...............The battle of "Exhibition Place".

    More to come.

Nope. I wasn't kidding. Nonetheless, my question has been answered, eh. I now know about CPT Horton and am more informed. For that, I am grateful.

We're all North Americans here. I meant no offense and take none. You see, very little US history is taught here in the States anymore. Absolutely no Canadian history is taught. For my part, I have travelled Canada, have friends in Guelph and Ottawa, and I naturally want to know more. I like the Canada Thread for its educational value and the friendship it can offer. Every time I click on it I learn something new. Thanks to all for helping me out.

Yes, Ottawa and Guelph are beautiful cities.

Ottawa is famous for being the first Canadian city to receive a telephone back in 1945. Canadian Soldiers returning from WW2 brought a "telephone device" they were given from the English government in thanks for supporting their army in Europe. Since the first telephone was installed in Ottawa, this is where the first Canadian government was created, and as you know, is the Capital city of Canada.

No offense taken, and no need to apologize to anyone, they should apologize to you frankly. Your only mistake is your trying to have an intelligent conversation with 2 smart a$$es with a zing of sense of homour. The Canadain section is not very deep in thought around here....alot sarcasim and ribbing.
    Cheers M8 !

Thanks very much. Zings and a sense of humour are fine, eh. I ask only one thing of you fellows. If I ask about a point of Canadian History, I do it out of respect and a quest for knowledge. Please don't try to kid me. I really want to know these things. If you want to suggest a book, I would appreciate it.

Not that it matters to you, country boy, but what do you think those regular subway disruptions in service are all about?

Secondly, people who do this sort of thing are quite mentally ill. Your inconvenience is the last thing they're concerned about.

Yes, but jumping off a bridge into a river is fine with me, but jumping off a bridge onto oncoming traffic on a busy highway is just plain selfish and stupid.

Nobody wants to see that happen, its like a public execution, are we in the 18th century still??
