Folks, I have to drive from LA to Raleigh, NC on Monday - need to be in Raleigh Wednesday night. Anyone have any tips such as good places to stop for the night or what is the best route - I-40 or I-20?

There will be two of us sharing the driving so I was thinking of 4 hour shifts.

    Any input welcome!

    Thanks, george

I have done the route many times. I-40 the whole way, baby.

New Mexico one night, Oklahoma the next, NC on the third. Long, boring.

Once, I had the good fortune to breakdown in Gallup New Mexico for 3-days.

I left LA at noon on a Wednesday, driving alone in my 348, spent short nights in Albequerque and Memphis, and was in mid-NC by 4pm Friday. As JRR said, I-40 all the way - probably no better X-country interstate anywhere.

I guess the only reason to go I-20 rather than 40 would be in the winter to avoid snow/ice on the roads.

Wish I was driving a Ferrari - but will be driving a BMW 530 my friend is buying out there.

I would agree with I40 as a route. I usually travel with Choice Hotels for several reasons. First, they are everywhere. Then, They have good rooms at a very reasonable price and have a very nice built-in breakfast. If you're focused on your ultimate destination, you can't do much better for an in-out-get going stop. Call 800-4Choice.
