You are absolutely right.....I finally dug out the FIA GT rule book, and there it was concerning the restrictor.......
Thanks for the help.....I will NOT be going this route as the whole objective in this project is max. hp with bullet proof reliability.....
I am still puzzled with the absense of the AFM's..

Maybe they are running MAP instead??

That makes alot of sense...do you have any idea if it would be worth deleting AFM and using MAP?....this is not my expertise...lol

ASk No Doubt. It could be that since racing street drivebility and emmissions is not an issue. Therfore, they can Alfa-N? Throttle position and RPM to sence load and they map the ECU based on that.

My thoughts also.....but is the increase worth the cost?? Could you use existing 355ecu or would I have to go with aftermarket?

I think the goal would be to use the existing ECU :).

Not my expertise either, but I've been doing some research on this so I can put open stacks on my 355 tbs. There's a guy who builds a box that will interpret the signal from a map so that your motronic reads it as a maf. The maps I've tested give voltage readouts backwards and in a narrower range than the maf on my motor. See my thread "355 throttle bodies on a 348" for the reference. IIRC, he gets about $400 for the box.

Since you are much further ahead in your project than I am, do you think the MAP setup will produce hp gains worth the time and expense?

That's what Imagonnado. IMO, the more controls and sensors you have, the finer the tuning, the greater the horsepower, but the mafs limit the possibilities. What I'm really going for tho is the look of old Hilborn injectors sticking out of the hood! (I'm that old too).

Yes, it looks like they were made to produce the fabled Conical Helmholtz effect, said to create a tornadic effect. By taking the outside airflow from the tornado, a high pressure ram effect is created thus obviating the need for turbo- or supercharging. The problem has always been sustaining stoichiometry throughout the curve. A moving chicane solution has been sought for eons using everything from transducers to gerbils. A change to Motronic 5.8 would seem to help, but even decimals on Motronic systems create a new problem that can only be solved by arithmetic. Your input would be apprecaited.

Sounds like the ticket!! Are you going to pull the trigger?? :)

Absolutely!! That way I can just put air cleaners at the inlets :)

 Plugzit!! You have gone mad!! It may be stemming from the aproximal overexposure of the 355 TB's to your cerebellum causing a cyclical disruption to your central algorithm processing intermediary  whereby your modus operandi has been markedly amended to its exitant constitution

So in summation you are screwed up and in severe need of an F355 as a counteractant :p :p !!!

Sorry if I scared you. Sometimes I have short periods of lucidity to screw up an otherwise gloriously insane day.

Air flow meters can be removed with an ECU flash..

you can then remove the filters and sensors which restrict flow so much.

Mixture map is then dependant on pre set throttle position based programming and lambda readings.

Here's an opened 360C air flow meter... note.. straight through.. no air flow sensor in the way, and the sensor terminals are simply folded flat out the way (looks like std from the outside).. You could always just fit a straight pipe.. but unless you have rigid engine mounts (360 Michelotto), you need the flexible tubes.

also, here is a modified 360 Inlet manifold..
