Going to do a Trans Fluid Change. Going to use the the Red Line 75W90NS does Royal Purple make a equal to this??? The reason why I am asking my friends shop is a Royal Purple dealer. If not I will just use the Red Line 75W90NS. Hence the BrotherHood says this is the best and my car does not shift into second when it is cold.

    Thanks

Redline 75-90NS is real good. I have read great things about Royal Purple brand of oils. I do not know if it is equivalent to the NS in that it does not contain the friction modifier.

I use Redline 75-90NS with, if I recall correctly, 2 oz. Redline Friction Modifier. Just enough to eliminate the differential chatter. 348 shifts smooth warm. I still skip 2nd until fluids warm-up.

Yes. My car has had Redline 75-90 NS in it for the last 3 years. No cold start issues - can get second gear pretty easily. Lot of happy users on fchat.

AFAIK all the RP synthetic gear oils have LSD friction modifiers, so there is no direct equivalent to RL 75/90NS. It may still work great though - or be way too slippery for the synchros..I haven't tried it. I am happy with the 75/90NS in mine.

I used the Royal Purple gear oil in my old 308 with great success. Smooth shifting, no synchro issues, etc. I loved it so much I used their motor oil and noticed lower operating temps, even during the hot Houston summer. When I did the 60k major service I used the RP assembly lube when I put the cams back in. I have been very happy with their products.

Still have butter smooth shifts after nearly a year mate! :)
110% HAPPY! :D:D I took the 348 for a drive on Sunday with the g/f. As soon as I backed out of the driveway and started driving down the road, I was getting super smooth shifts, into 2nd and every gear after that........when the car is dead cold. :) When the car is warmed up, same same. Effortless gear shifts and it makes it a pleasure to drive. :)
Before I changed to Redline, I had trouble with 2nd cold shift (like everyone else  ) and the rest of the shifts were nothing to write home about. Very notchy and less than inspiring shifts. After the oil change, very smooth and easy gear changes. Glad I made the switch to Redline oil. :)
I actually used 75/90W Superlight Shockproof oil, not the 75/90NS oil. :)

Apparently can only get 15W-40 or 20W-50 here in Oz. :)
So I will use the 15W-40. I actually wanted 10W-50, but no can do. :)

I don't care what anyone says, you are all right.

    What about 5/40?

I currently have Redline's 75w90NS in my transmission. It's good.

I have used Redline's MTL (OK, but not great). I have used RedLine's Superlight Shockproof (the best of all for shift smoothness and speed, but I noticed heavy condensation in it when I drained it after a year).

And when I first purchased my 348, it had the Shell/Agip OEM nonsense in the tranny (absolutely awful gear oil).

You know, maybe I'm describing it poorly.

It's not so much that the RPMs themselves have to be above idle for the 2nd gear shift when cold...but more that in non-race, normal street driving I see notchiness when cold if I completely let off the accelerator during the shift into 2nd (upshift or downshift), as if the speed of the RPM drop (i.e. partial throttle versus no throttle) during the shift when cold mattered.

If you have the gas pressed just a bit, then your RPMs fall slower during your shift. If you want butter-smooth shifts into 2nd gear when cold (about the first 2 minutes of driving with Redline's 75w90NS in the tranny), then you need to shift into 2nd gear with partial throttle rather than with your foot completely off the accelerator pedal.

I hope that makes more sense...

Anyway, the shifts into 2nd when cold are fine. If I use no throttle during the shift when cold, then there is a slight hesitation going into 2nd gear (a notchiness).

If I have *any* throttle at all during the 2nd gear shift, then it is butter-smooth even when cold.

After 2 minutes of driving, giving her partial throttle isn't even necessary...all of the shifts into all gears are fine, throttle or not.

Cheers mate. Cant get 5W-40 here either. :)
Can get it in other brands of oils, of course. But I want to try out Royal Purple oil, so will get the 15W-50 this oil change and give it a go. :):)

    No Doubt. Last Question???

I just got back from driving her for another hour. All shifts, even the first shift into 2nd gear when cold, were perfect today...so it was just that very first shift yesterday that was notchy...no repeats of that today.

Each shift felt like it does when I pull back the bolt on my mini-14. It's a very rewarding feeling.

I'd rank the gear oils so far as:
#1: Superlight shockproof (best shifts, quickest shifts, smoothest shifts...only downside was the excess transmission condensation over that year).
    #2: Redline's 75w90NS
    #3: Redline's MTL
#4: really awful OEM gear oil, whatever came in the car when I got it (Shell or Agip)

We'll see over the next year if Redline's 75w90NS has little (like Redline's MTL) or no tranny condensation. If so, I'll probably end up rating it above the Superlight Shockproof if for nothing else the decreased rust risk...but, if it encourages condensation then might as well go with the better shifts of the Shockproof.

Do you think you get the condensation from driving the car, or from the car sitting??? Any thoughts on this???

Well, my 348 doesn't sit very much. I drive her every day! The only time that I've had substantial condensation was using the otherwise superior RedLine Superlight Shockproof (but the jury is still out on the RedLine 75w90NS).
