Removing old and installing New 308 spoiler

Hi Gang,

I had started on my winter project but then decided to drop everything and go on vacation.

So I'm back and here is the project.

I bought a Euro Spoiler a few months back for the 308. IMHO it just looks good.

I did a search and found out how to take the old one off. But to put the new one on that's a whole different story.

On the old spoiler the lip all the way around is very thin and it's wide too (2"?)

The new spoiler is thicker and seems not as wide as the old one.

Last picture, in circle, is the tricky part. That bar where the spoiler slides in is tight, not much play

In additon to the tips I gave you this afternoon:

That mounting lip on your new spoiler is indeed pretty thick., I'd try fitting a board the same thickness as the spoiler into the mounting 'slot' to see if there's enough 'give' for it to go in. If it won't go in, or requires a lot of force, the lip will have to be ground down to about 3/16" thick.

As to the lip being narrower, as long as the screw holes have 1/8" or more fibreglass around them they'll hold fine. 1 or 2 of the OEM holes in my spoiler have less, but some others have more, so it sort of averages out.

 

A couple of years back I went from the Euro to the US on my 84. It was the weirdest thing how it wouldn't fit. My body shop guy told me he had "a ton of glass" on it to get it to match up right. You wouldn't know it to look at it, though. It looks like it left Italy this way now but I firmly believe no two 308's are alike.

 

Amen, as we tried two different aftermarket Euro-type units and one was WAY OFF (too narrow) while the other is still a bit off, but not as bad so we used that one.

Chris, you got some work ahead of you and hope she lasts a long time. My new one lasted all of three track days and i had a bad off. i gave up and used glue, added tape and moved on.

 

I agree it's variance between cars PLUS variance between repro spoiler units!

Greg328 went thru much the same routine to fit my old one......

Power tools are required.........carry on.....

Naaa, we'll get you on the track at some point in 2007 come heck or high water A few dings and maybe a slight wall brushing will cure that amazing wax job desire. Imagine all the 'extra time' you'll have by not washing/waxing the car as often... and tracking her instead

You are going to grind the bottom of that spoiler off the first time you go up your driveway!

I had no idea there was so much variation in these things. Maybe the FFIC needs to make a stop at your house. Of course, it will be hard to make us work rather than just taking over the theater room and watching movies....

Hi boys,

I had the body guy come up to my house to help me install the Euro spoiler.

First thing he said was "You got a lift in here!!"

A little show and tell on the lift and then we got busy on the spoiler.

We took a chisel and took out 2 shims, were i had circled in a previous photo,
and the spoiler went in. It went in tight (ad joke here) with a little grinding.

Pretty happy with it.

I also installed those short bars, that replace bumper shocks, and pushed in the US Bumper.

Hey Chris,

That pushed in look is much better. How well did the brackets fit?? and was the bumper fit as good as stock on the sides and top?

How much for the brackets??

I would like to be able to return the car to stock, if needed for resale, so drilling the shocks is out.

Yes, the brackets go in with no problem. And the bumper lines up nice all around.

The Co. is called McCarbon?? I think they advertise here.

All you do is take out those 3 bolts, in yellow and take the rubber booty, with yellow arrow. Take out old shock and replace with the new one and use the same bolts, rubber booty, slap the bumper back on and you're done.

Another question.....aren't your headlights missing some front trim?

Looks great, btw - as Enzo intended. I'd really like to 'go euro' but the $$$ isn't there, and you have no idea the pain I've suffered getting my spoiler on/off when I installed a larger radiator/fan combo. Too much nightmare to do that all again soon.

I didn't know they made deeper spoilers for those "kit cars"

 

I track my car quite a bit, but not as much as you... if I did, I'd probably change to the shorter USA spoiler, even though I much prefer the look of the euro spoiler.

 

I upgraded my headlights as part of my winter project too. Hopefully i'll put everything together this weeken.

Well, I got away from the family gathering for a few hours to finish up.

I got some new bulbs from Daniel Stern Lighting when I did my headlights so I installed new park lights and new park/directional covers.
