This weekend I got my 348's gearbox and transmission oil changed. Jeremy (F512M) did a wonderful job. I was merely watching and taking mental notes along the way. I want to do the next change myself.

In keeping with this project and other typical work that one would perform on a 348, what tools should I buy?

    So far I have noted:
    - Proper floor jack with low profile - I like the 2 ton jack from American Foundry and Forge
    - A pair of 2 ton Jackstands
    - Torque wrench for torquing the wheels
    - Sockets in metric and US units with multiple sized wrenches to handle the tight access spots as well. Shallow and deep sockets
    - Creeper with wheels to get comfortably under the car
    - some kind of hammer to gently tap the area around the bolt to loosen it first.
    - Floor lamp to see more clearly under the car

If you like certain brands, please mention it.

If you get a work lamp, be real sure it's not an incandescent. A LED or fluorescent lamp is much safer.

Trolley jack and stands are a must. :)
Save the hassle and go and buy a 100 or 200 or 800 piece tool kit. :)
Whatever you think your needs are. My brother owns that big blue 1000 piece Kingchrome tool box to the right. Comes in VERY VERY handy. Has everything in it that you could possibly need, bar the obvious specialist tools needed here and there. :):)

If you are really serious about buying tools for your car I say buy Snap-On. They are very expensive when compared to other brands, but they last forever and if you do by chance break one they will replace it free. I look at tools as an addiction worse then heroin, I'm about 25K in the hole with my collection of tools.

We had a great time going over Sameer's car. Perhaps the most important tool that I have in my tool box.....My Craftsman Bottle Opener.... :)

    - A set of metric / US of Allen keys
    - A set of LONG screwdrivers / variety of sizes
    - A set of short nose and long nose pliers
    - Impact wrentch / air compressor - for breaking wheel bolts free etc. Ive
also used this to remove the bolts at the back of the brembo brakes. HUGE
    frustration saver.
    - Flashlight helps as well.
    - If you going to get a light, get a single bulb florecent or a dual bulb
that you can turn one or both on at once.

I like craftsman tools. Cheap, easy to find, $100 buys a bunch, and if
it breaks, they'll give you another for free. Im no professional mechanic,
but these have not let me down yet.

I'd say the most essential tool for a 348 DIY'er is a good 348 shop manual.

Or spend all of your time asking a million how to questions.

Yeah, when I changed my gear oil last month (once per year) my wrench started turning and I thought to myself "this is too easy" when suddeny SNAP!

My extension had been twisting instead of the big .75 inch top gear-oil fill bolt. So I had to replace my extension and redo...then I heard a big POP!

I just knew that I had broken something...but alas...it was just that big mombo bolt finally turning loose!

    No harm, no foul.

I'd have to say that changing your 348's gear oil or changing O2 sensors would be the *best* projects for the first-time home-mechanic to do for your Ferrari.

Not too much could go wrong, you'll notice a difference in your car, and both of those projects get your hands dirty getting into the bella machina herself.

    Life is good.

The most essential tool is a check book or credit card with a high limit :)
