I have a friend looking for 246 GTS, this is in no way a commission based thing. He is simply a friend of mine looking for a good clean example. I have made a few phone calls for him and come up empty handed. So I came to the dino side to see if any of you had any thoughts or insight. He is looking for a car that is in private hands that is not being advertised and in good condition. I have found cars in the past on commission, but this for a friend, who has done me many favors.

    Thanks in advance

    Michael

    Where are you?

    More importantly, where is he?

There are cars out there, is he really ready to pony up the silly money that a good GTS is fetching now?

If you're in OZ (aka Australia) won't you be searching for a RHD exclusively? The past few UK posts make it sound like the RHD's are even scarcer and have higher prices.

Now that's what I like to hear!!

There is probably a magic number that would get us to part with our one-owner '73 RHD GTS, but it's WAY BIG!

I'm not from "down under" I live in California as does my friend. He is a private collector and asked that I keep all his information that way as well until a deal comes up that he would be interested in.

    Thanks

good luck trying to find one privately. The ones that have been selling are usually advertized by dealers/brokers. I am not sure why it is so bad to buy one from a dealer/broker, generally they are in a better position to sell as they have access to tools, a lift, and a better knowledge of what a good car is.
I have a project car that will be ready this summer, it is a euro GTS that will be sold with a fresh engine and trans.
I am a mechanic, dealer and broker!

I've got exactly what you want. How badly does your client want it? I hadn't been thinking of selling, but there is always a price.

Buying from a dealer has the perception of added costs, buying from a private party might be an attempt to get the lowest possible price.

i don't know whether it is because it doesn't look original, or beacause it looks awkward. to me, it doesn't enhance the car. if someone is going to enhance something, to bring money, it needs to appeal to the buyer (ie- the dino with the modded engine)

I just bought an extremely low mileage 74 GTS, and paid through the nose, because I basically came into a windfall that fit this, and just turned 50. I have looked at 4 Dinos, all for sale by dealers, and checked out most listings all over the world that are currently on line or in the usual places.

I'd be happy to discuss with you or your friend at length. I will tell you that good cars are extremely expensive, this is not a simple purchase, and that the people on this chat forum are really outstanding resources for advice, recommendations and information in general, and made my purchase process much, much easier. Prices for Dinos have exploded because of fools like me, and I will also tell you that I offered several sellers just a bit less than their price, and they all refused to negotiate. I don't know if they all regret that now tha I bought a car elsewhere, but it does indicate a seller's market. Of course, with real estate softening and Iran looking to go nuclear, who knows what will happen to prices. On the other hand, that latter bit may mean there's a limited amount of time left to have fun, so tell your buddy to get that car and put as many miles on it as possible before the return of the Hidden Imam, or whatever!

Feel free to send me a private message, and I'll give you my phone number...

Thank you all for the help, but my friend has decided to wait. After I showed him a couple cars, he said prices are too high for him at the moment. I think they'll just continue to rise but he believes that will come back down. Again thank you guys.

That was my theory anyway. That money just isn't much fun sitting in the bank. Besides, if the market goes down, it won't just be Dinos, it'll be hedge fund returns, stocks, commodities, real estate... you name it. Unless the alternative is cash, collectible cars are a whole lot more fun than say... paintings!

    How does it drive?

Smart move, best not to get overextended
even if Mike Sheehan claims that high end Dino GTS cars are headed for the $300k mark.
