I plan to buy and hard wire a Escort or Beltronics Radar Detector.
What is the best fuse to tap on to.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Mike, this what I sugest, for the 12v. power wire just use an inline fuse holder that you can buy from a Radio Shack and put a 3 to 5 amp of fuse, it's the simplest thing to do.

I don't know why you wouldn't want to get a Valentine One after reading al over FChat that it is BY FAR considered the best, but in any case, if you're going to hardwire a detector into your QV, the easiest place is to pull out your dome light assembly to access the wires in there. That's how I wired in my Valentine.

Wire it to a circuit that is only hot when the ignition is on.

Leave the switch on the detector in the on position all of the time.

That way, the detector will automatically come on when the car is running, and turn off when not.

You won't have to remember to manually turn it on and off.

Are you mounting a hidden unit with a remote sensor type set up? I bought a wireless unit from the close out at CompUsa, so, just recharge and go.

Left fuse box - left 3 positions A, B, C are powered at the top by the ignition switch when in 'Run' position. Next fuses, D E at top are powered by the ignition switch in "Accessories' position.

I suggest making your choice from these two possibilities. You may need to purchase (Shucks, AutoZone etc) a brass splitter to enable 2 push-on connectors to attach to where a singe push-on connector now resides. The detector will come with a fuse holder or at least a recommendation for fuse size.

And remember, your eyes, brain, wisdom and some prudence are better ticket avoiders than any radar detector can everl be.

I used the fuse with the electric fuel pump. That was the detector is on only when the ignition is on but doesn't go off when starting. I find it annoying to have a detector go thru its beeps first when you turn on the ignition and then when you try and start the car.

Be sure and use an inline fuse (usually supplied with the detector hard wiring). You don't want a problem with the detector or wiring to blow the fuel pump fuse.
