**ranting for the heck of it.**

I miss it. Instead of someone winning an argument in an office and using that as the measure of their team's success, the real proof used to be on the track. Intelligent ideas from either a highly educated engineer or a backwoods wrench (usually the most fascinating) are what drives the excitement. 'How the f**k did they do that?' 'Really?' 'Man, that's a good idea.'

That is the Water Cooler talk that creates legends.

So what if another team came up with something that made their car faster. THAT'S THE POINT!!! Your team is obviously on cruise control.

Yes, safety is and should be the #1 concern, but c'mon.

Just once, I'd love to see a race where all of the entered teams have no rules. You get to try out all of the ace-up-the-sleeve engineering and cool developments so your bragging rights are completely justified and we start to evolve again.

I know what you mean, but it's part of taking the bad with the good of a popular sport. The survival and success of F1 is due directly to the influx of big money, first from tobacco and more recently auto companies. And as a result the stakes are very high, and the burden falls upon the teams to look out for their own best interests. You can find no-nonsense forms of racing out there if that's what you really want. Check out the local SCCA calendar or find a dirt track in your area. But we just have to accept that F1 is the way it is. And NASCAR has turned that same corner, albeit with a down-home veneer.

It's like baseball, and how the minor leagues took off in popularity back in the 90's. People craved the old fashioned baseball atmosphere where they could see players without egos actually playing hard but without spending $250 in an evening.

I agree, It would be great to have a F-1 where all you need are the basics=

3 liter, turbo, supercharge, turbine equivlent etc.. active suspension, launch control, active aero, suction fans etc... what ever it takes... a couple of natural laws ... Driver must be responsible for all "command" inputs... then the computers can do what they like...

hook the drivers up to telemetry, so you know the G loading etc... so the drivers will be safe ... and let the best design/driver win!

Make them use standard pump fuel, and std lubricants.... This way in 10 15 years new car technology will abound... there will always be money for this kind of thing... so what if you only have a couple of teams ... at least the racing will be at the cutting edge... and not dumbed now like now!

When I was a Kid... a F-1 Car was an awesome sight... wild and aggressive...
today .. they are like big spec mazda racers, with fancy body work... the only thing they have / had is the siren sound... but even that has been taken away... I know many folks on here will totally disagree, but unless you saw a Matra, Ferrari, BRM, Alfa, Cosworth, Renault turbo, etc... race in anger... you cant compare! IT WAS BETTER BACK THEN!!! the sound, feel, smell, etc... today its so clinical its boring.

    Interesting with the driver telemetry...

My medical side would LOVE to see live physological responses during Lap 1 and who stays in control throughout the race.

I'll bet you the cool MFers are the ones up front.

They had races like that...called them Formula Libre, I believe. Never saw one as I think they predate me, but they were open to all comers.
